  • Take a roundtrip walk across the bridge to burn off calories from Christmas day brunch It's a short walk from the lower East side restaurants (Essex and delancey). The best part was the wide walkway a...  more »

  • Everyone knows the Brooklyn Bridge as a symbol of the city. But I advise to pay attention to this-Williamsburg. On the waterfront by the Manhattan Mini Park, where you can sit and relax with views of the bridge. Helps relaxation, wonderful sunrises here.

  • For cycling and jogging, decent bridge. Bit more polluted than Manhattan, or Brooklyn, since there's a lot of big trucks, and they go underneath you, so if it's not windy, then the fumes rise upwards... The views are amazing. Good separation of pedestrians and cyclists. Takes you far into Manhattan.
  • It might not be as famous as the Brooklyn Bridge, but it's a better walking experience and has incredible views of Brooklyn. The path drops you right in the heart of Williamsburg. Go right and it's hoards of Jewish families, turn left and it's hoards of hipsters. Take your pick. Also a great bridge to go jogging on since the bikes have their own lanes.
  • In the troika of East River crossings, the Williamsburg bridge has always been the odd bridge out: not named for a specific NYC borough, nor is it in any famous movie shots. However what it lacks in fame, it makes up in a beautiful walk way. Spanning about 1.2 miles overall, the bridge has 2 sides: one solely dedicated for bikes and one solely for runners and joggers (a welcome treat, compared to the free-for-all on the Brooklyn Bridge). Although the walkway is on the outside part of the bridge, it is enclosed by a metal barricade, ruining any chances of getting pictures of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. Additionally, walkers have to contend with the rumble of the J and M trains running across the bridge every 5 minutes, which can give the bridge a good rumble. Overall, this is a nice way to spend a warm afternoon, though not as scenic or unique as the Brooklyn and Manhattan crossings
  • Biking over the bridge every morning I look down and wonder if I was a poet how would I describe the texture of the water today? It's different everyday. It's beautiful and strong everyday. There are many aspects worthy of description. Often you can see boats and my thighs burn, it's an endurance climb. Riding back in the evening is good too. The bridge is difficult and exhilarating. There are often interest looking people biking the other way on the bridge. No restrooms.
  • The best bridge ever. I don't know how to describe my love for the Williamsburg Bridge but I just adore it. It's beautiful, historical, and opened my eyes to cycling in the city as actual transportation. It's also great to view from the J Train as you're riding between Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
