Do not miss Summer Jazz Series in Harlem I saw my brother Tony Lewis 4 a sweet Quartet @ Calary Baptist church on 44 -55 W 124th st. They cooked a little Chick Corea, Burned Red Clay by Freddie Hubbard and the classic Milestones by Miles Davis a proper tune to end to a wonderful set. So go out support the arts and music and Harlem USA.
Amazing experience. Money well spent. Would recommend to anyone looking to learn more about Harlem.
Great walking tours of Harlem including hosting live jazz concerts. The music program /live weekly jazz concerts are great as well as the annual gospel concerts and Craig Harris's "God's Trombones" in the month of December. Tour guides are very knowledgeable.
I felt personally introduced to this long-time mysterious and previously misunderstood section of Manhattan. The tour was informative, both historically and culturally and everywhere there was beauty. The owner of Welcome to Harlem and our tour guide Carolyn Johnson's knowledge, personality and love of Harlem captivated everyone on our tour. I will certainly be back to visit Harlem on my own to enjoy the food, the parks, the people and architecture - and of course, The Apollo Theater.
My cousin and I did the Harlem Jazz tour and I also did the Walking Day tour, hosted by Cheryl - it was absolutely wonderful. Cheryl was not only passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Harlem, but she also embodied the warmth, friendliness and care as if she was my own mum! We ended the jazz tour with one of her friend's and long-time jazz veteran's birthday party at the RSL, which was so much fun - we had delicious soul food and even birthday cake... it was like having a personal invite to a friend's party! By the end of both tours I felt like I knew Harlem like it was my own neighborhood - which will be if I move to New York! Thanks so much Cheryl and Welcome to Harlem tours, I would definitely recommend you to everyone who wants to explore Harlem!
