Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.

  • The shops at Columbus Circle are mostly high end, mostly over-priced. If you like walking around and "shopping", you'll enjoy it. If you just want buy something, Amazon is a better bet. You won't find...  more »
  • Very nice selection of high end stores in a lovely, modern setting. Busy but not overly crowded. Whole foods in lower level.  more »

  • Well organized easy to locate the place when you take the public transportation which is the train. The workers are helpful in getting people to their shows. I loved the jazz music. Very unique. Wheelchair accessible for all age group. Different shows, different atmosphere with Jazz musicians and music. Nice place to also shop. Love it.
  • Amazon Books recently opened. Staff are helpful but space is too small. They only sell books with 4+ ratings based on their algorithms for popular titles. Lacks the intimate feel and serendipity of finding something unique that book lovers like. Whole Foods has a nice selection for lunch to eat in or go across the street to Central Park for a picnic. William Sonoma inspires creativity for the kitchen. Thanks to Jazz at Lincoln Center jazz is alive and well. It all doesn't come cheap though.
  • One the one hand this is just a shopping mall. On the other hand this mall is very different. There are gems everywhere. This is a whole food at the basement. There's an Amazon bookstore. There're great French and Japanese restaurants, all in one place.
  • This center has amazing views of the city. It also has a couple of high end stores to shop or just window shop. The shops vary from clothing, to bakeries, to restaurants. I would recommend coming in here even if you are just passing by.
  • This place feels upscale and has number of shops and butiques. Clean public restroom, Whole food in the basement, Amazon store on third floor. Very cozy jazz place.
