Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.

  • It’s not a museum although they do have small exhibits. You can come here to watch TV shows from years back and browse their comprehensive media archive. When we visited, we saw the first few episodes of the 1977 miniseries ‘Roots’, about the African slave trade. We also looked at vintage cigarette advertisements from as far back as the 1920s. Admission is free but donations are welcome. The next time you remember a rare media event or piece and wonder where you can see it, you know where to go.
  • Temporary exhibition of Tony Bennett's artwork on display along with clips of his singing career. One friendly staff was very persuasive in getting my interest in coming back for further visits of their media archives.
  • Trash bathrooms only one stall and one urinal. And i almost went to sleep. Most fun was drawing on the seat.
  • Wish I had more time. The seats for viewing are good. The archive is growing so I think it will be better.
  • Great media library... had it in my mind to see Tiny Tim marry Miss Vicky on Carson ( mostly for the interview after) and got to see it here.
