Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.

  • This was no doubt my favourite shop when visiting the big Apple. Suited me because there was loads of american sports gear: nfl jearseys, t-shirts, running shoes etc. Good quality but still good price...  more »

  • A standard sportswear store that stocks a large variety of sports apparel. Difficult to find xx+ sizes. A store this large should have a B+T (big and tall) section.  more »

  • If you like shopping under one roof and is a multipurpose sports type then Paragon Sports is the place. Have a vast selection within the regular types of sports and within camping. The shop is a labyrinth of exiting new adventures. Give yourself the experience visiting one of the most comprehensive shops of Manhattan within is field - pure delight and you will most probably find something you didn't new either existed or that you actually was urgently missing.
  • Unlike Modell's, this is an actual sporting goods store. They have equipment for playing many sports -- and more equipment that sporty clothing. I got cleats here, and there were several options to try on at different price points. While I was trying them on, the employee helped a kid and his mom pick out a correctly sized baseball bat and glove, working within their budget and the instructions from the baseball team. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The only drawback is the building is a bit of a maze - try to remember how you went in, or it'll be hard to get back to the registers and exit!
  • Iconic sporting goods store. Huge selection of pretty much anything you can imagine. Many floors and hidden section, it will take you a few hours to explore the whole store.
  • Really poor. I spent $500 on baseball gear and had them break in a glove for me. I was told to come back the next day to pick it up. Went back two days later and the glove hadn't even been touched. The shop clerk didn't care, offered a lame sorry and a isn't my fault what can I do. Supervisor was even less interested. Poor form. Bad service. Look some where else.
  • I really lime this place ever since I was little. It just gets bigger and better. The sales people are great. They have it all and are not pushy to sell you something. It can be a litte expensive but you know your getting quality.
