  • This is a great store in terms of being able to see a lot of brands/models in physical form. It's always a great idea to come here, see the product in person, try on for size/fit, then find a deal because they price match! They carry tons of equipment from a wide range of companies. It spans a wide price range too. Overall a great place to visit. The staff is super friendly and helpful. However, not all of them are knowledgeable so do your homework before coming here.
  • I went to Paragons with my wife to purchase a Canadian goose Parker. It was Christmas Eve, approximately 6 p.m., an hour before they close. Natasha, the sales rep, attentively helped us find the perfect Canadian goose parka for my wife. She was very cordial, professional, and had a lot of patience. She didn't put any pressure on us at all. We felt very comfortable as my wife was trying on several coats. Ladies, if you need any sort of ski or winter attire, go into the section and find Natasha. She's by far the best seles rep. that I ever experienced.
  • Well, I'm forever done with Paragon Sports. Horrible experience, bad customer service. Here's the story: We purchased a Boosted Board from Paragon Sports. According to Boosted Board, YOU have one month to return the board to the store. Well, we were well within our 1 month return-time yet Paragon Sports decided to pull a fast one and decline to accept our return after having called them first to acknowledge they would accept a return. Got to the store and the manager, can't recall his name, decided that it was like a new car. Once it's been ridden and used, they won't accept it back. We then called and complained to Boosted Board that this was happening at this store. Boosted Board ensured us that Paragon Sports HAD to accept the board back as they have some sort of agreement. Seems like either that manager didn't know about this agreement or decided to try and pull a fast one on us. Regardless, Paragon Sports eventually accepted the return in full after we had to spend hours trying to return the board. Boosted Board as a company is great and if you're in the same predicament, I highly recommend you call Boosted Board or whatever manufacturer of your original purchase was to ensure that Paragon Sports accepts your returns. Some of the workers were nice but we were treated pretty poorly there and it's just not worth ever going back to them.
  • Unlike many others, my experience at Paragon has been difficult and disappointing from the very beginning. I stopped by to look for a pair of shoes that would help me with the pain in my back from walking on New York City streets. I hoped that the staff would be able to teach me about types of athletic shoes. After waiting about 20 minutes for someone to notice me in the department (the floor-manager-apparent and a compatriot were gabbing while I stood in the middle of the floor looking for help), I started to leave, but noticed another floor watcher outside the shoe section who, after wrangling several more minutes with me, took me back to find a salesperson. A sweet young woman took on the case (while the guys were still talking) and spent a long time trying to find a pair of shoes that might solve the problem. After several trips up and down the stairs to the storeroom, she finally found the only pair in the place that seemed appropriate, even though it came from the men's selections. $130 later, I walked out thinking that I might have found a good pair, and that if I hadn't, the store had a return policy that would protect my investment. It goes without saying that not only did the shoes not work out, but also, the return policy had not been explained properly to me. To shorten this story by about a month, I attempted to contact corporate through their website that I had a problem, but no one answered, and when I went back into the store, I was treated rudely by a young female manager who finally gave me a store return. Every time since then, when I have attempted to deplete that credit, I have met with resistance and more poor attitude. Today, I tried to purchase one item, but the salesperson accidentally slipped an additional one in my bag. Later on, I walked all the way back to the store in my old shoes to return the item, and the young woman at the front desk seemed to accuse me of taking the item without paying for it. I thought she might have been grateful that I returned it. So much for trying to help a store reduce shrink. I have finally managed to use up that credit, but will never go back to the store again. Buyer beware! Double-check the return policy or you, too, may end up buying things you don't need from a place that doesn't want you there. (If you just can't avoid the lure of the place, make sure you take along someone below age 40. You could be one of those other happy customers.)
  • One of the best sporting goods stores around and the folks in the ski department really know their stuff. Many of the pros in the ski department have been there for ages. Great at fitting boots and super knowledgeable about skis. Of course a great selection of products.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
