Nolita, New York City

4.0
Nolita, sometimes written as NoLIta, and deriving from "North of Little Italy" is a neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. Nolita is bounded on the north by Houston Street, on the east by the Bowery, on the south roughly by Broome Street, and on the west by Lafayette Street. It lies east of SoHo, south of NoHo, west of the Lower East Side, and north of Little Italy and Chinatown.History and descriptionThe neighborhood was long regarded as part of Little Italy, but has lost much of its recognizable Italian character in recent decades because of the migration of Italian-Americans out of Manhattan. Many elderly descendants of Italian immigrants continue to live in the neighborhood. Moreover, the Feast of San Gennaro, dedicated to Saint Januarius ("pope of Naples"), is held in the neighborhood every year following Labor Day, on Mulberry Street between Houston and Grand Streets. The feast, as recreated on Elizabeth Street between Prince and Houston, was featured in the film The Godfather Part III.

  • Read the owners response to the comments to understand the service that you will receive. It says it all! The food is terrible (couldn't finish my undercooked pasta) and the staff members are rude. This place is great for pictures, but would NOT recommend eating there. Try going to By Chloe or Butcher's Daughter instead! Amazing alternatives with friendly staff.
  • The place is super cute, but extremely small and crowded. You have to sit on top of other people in a family-ish style seating. I got the steak sandwich. While the flavors were very good the bread was hard as a rock, I almost broke a tooth in it. So I put it to the side and added the steak to my salad and improvised. Would be super cute for parties and such though!
  • Such an amazing place to go! The space is small and intimate! While eating, the owner came and talked to us himself! Such a great experience and i cannot wait to go back!
  • Terrible food & service. What kind of restaurant doesn't let you exchange a cocktail that the waitress messed up your order? The decor is cute.... but the place is gitchy. Just go for a coffee or a drink to take your picture. Otherwise not worth your time or money.
  • Do not eat here! They only have 5 entrees and they all leave something to be desired. This place looks rundown, the service is mediocre and rushed. The food is salty, tiny portions and worst of all IT MADE ME THROW UP! I called the manager to report this and he refused to refund my dinner. He accused me of lying about having food poisoning. Terrible customer service. THIS PLACE WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
