Neue Galerie New York, New York City
(4.1/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Neue Galerie New York houses 20th-century German and Austrian art and design. In an old mansion on Fifth Avenue, two gallery floors display art from 1900s Vienna, and German art across various movements of the early 20th century. The Vienna collection explores the relationship between the fine arts and the decorative arts, with works by artists like Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann, and Adolf Loos. In the collection of German art, discover movements such as the Blaue Reiter and its circle, the Brucke, and the Bauhaus. Two close friends, Serge Sabarsky and Ronald S. Lauder, created the concept for the museum. Unfortunately, Sabarsky died before the museum was realized, but Lauder continued with the creation of the museum in memory of his friend. • We have always loved Klimt's paintings and we watched The Lady in Gold the other day. Looked up where the painting was now and it is on 5th Avenue! So we had to go! And to top it off there is currentl...  more »
  • This museum is small, but a must. Has exposure of works of Klimt, including Golden Lady, real story immortalized even on film.

  • Visited this gallery for the first time on September 3, 2016. Beautiful gallery in what must have been someone's home back in the day. "The Woman in Gold" is stunning, and the docents are very attentive. Additionally, the cafe on the first floor---awesome. I ordered crepes and a latte--some of the best food I've ever had in NY.
  • Beautiful gallery. It's not as busy as other museums in the area. The collection is focused on German artwork from the 20th century. Worth a visit if you have a few hours.
  • Beautiful gallery with a selection of Klimt paintings and stunning turn of the century Austrian jewellery and household objects. Currently suggested entry as no exhibition on. Lovely shop. Very over-rated cafe however -nothing like a Viennese cafe.
  • The very best in Viennese art !! And in one of the best buildings- A jewel Btw the food in the resturant - Oygood!!
  • This exquisite small Museum has a unique collection of modern German and Austrian art. Goulash and sacher tort in the restaurant.
