Neue Galerie New York, New York City

4.2
Neue Galerie New York houses 20th-century German and Austrian art and design. In an old mansion on Fifth Avenue, two gallery floors display art from 1900s Vienna, and German art across various movements of the early 20th century. The Vienna collection explores the relationship between the fine arts and the decorative arts, with works by artists like Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann, and Adolf Loos. In the collection of German art, discover movements such as the Blaue Reiter and its circle, the Brucke, and the Bauhaus. Two close friends, Serge Sabarsky and Ronald S. Lauder, created the concept for the museum. Unfortunately, Sabarsky died before the museum was realized, but Lauder continued with the creation of the museum in memory of his friend. • I don't think that it is suitable for everyone because for some what really is the famous portrait of Adele, which goose you bumps when you have it before. By removing this beautiful picture and some more in the same room, the rest of the collection is dedicated to German and Austrian design and painting and there are gems that surprise. Access to the Museum is almost like passing immigration when you touch a border agent. They are not very friendly and make you throw bottles of water, a little absurd. And another very silly thing we passed was that we remove the coats being on the top floor and not let us take them in hand, or put them to us or had left them in the cloakroom... in short, american way... The queue for the cafeteria was órdago. That I like in this country having to queue for everything. The price was $ 20.

  • A limited gallery but well worth seeing. After watching the movie, had a splendid time seeing the focus of the movie.  more »
  • That was watching the movie "Golden Adele", just saw the real true. Great paintings Klimt seemed Golden. More "Kiss" might be like. One more adire painting chinoiserie was nice. Forget when landscape painting, 見入りました. A small museum to adult rates are slightly higher. But are well worth a visit. Sunday afternoon nap at 12:00 opening

  • Currently you can see 2 rooms (3/4 of one floor of the museum) for $10. No photography allowed. Except for the very popular "Woman in Gold", it's not worth it. Go to the Met instead. And the Met won't confiscate your bottled water in 100 degrees summer weather! And isn't closed on the oddest days. Neue Galerie, shame on you!
  • Another hidden gem of New York. A great spot to see some interesting art and silver while thinking "this is what it's like to live in a swank upper east side townhouse". Stay for lunch in the cafe of Viennese classics!
  • If you want to see the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, then the price of admission is worth it. Great location by the park. Other items in the collection are excellent. Small museum with only two floors containing art, but they pack a lot into those two floors.
  • One of my favorite place to visit in NYC. Always something interesting to view. Nice bookstore and a great Austrian cafe.
  • Cozy little museum. For the size, the collection is quite nice - Schiele fans will enjoy themselves. Nice cafe downstairs too!

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
