  • I visited because Mood is featured in Project Runway. It was cool to see a place that is constantly on TV, but there wasn't much to the store except fabric. Since I didn't need anything and I just wen...  more »
  • Mood Fabrics is on the 3rd floor of the building. You take an elevator from the lobby directly to the fabric store, no stopping on other floors. Sheila is a fabric-a-holic and was loving this place! G...  more »

  • This is THE most amazing fabric resource in the world! Calling it a "store" doesn't do it justice. There are locations in LA and NYC, and they have a lovely online collection as well. One can always count on the quality of the fabric and the in store assistance is unsurpassed. Yep I'm a fan. I send all my brides here, and I choose fabric here for myself. Plus... there's Swatch and Sam. Go meet them and get in the Mood.
  • Do you sew? Have a dressmaker? What type or color of fabric do you need? Mood Fabrics has it! Plus great selection of buttons, trim, fur pieces, real or faux. The most helpful staff. I have spent hours here, ogling the amazing selection. And I have never come away empty-handed. Mood also offers sewing classes for all levels of expertise and interest.
  • If you go to the store it is great. The representatives help you find fabrics and the inventory is amazing. Online horrible. The shipping is super slow, which makes it hard if I need something for my business fast. They might as well get rid of their online reps. They will do absolutely as little as possible. Their answers are ones any average person can figure out by themselves by looking through the online store. It is not only frustrating but a waste of time for business people like me. My suggestion to the Mood owner, have an online rep that is at the actual store on the floor so that they can actually help. I am sure you have many customers like me who don't live there and it would be nice to help us out since we can't visit the store. Look at some of the 3 star reviews. They are all accurate.
  • There are a million fabric shops, and Mood has by far the best selection. Absolutely. Now, for a shop that sells itself on having it all, they lack a lot of even basic technical fabrics that you'll need if you're working on a project that will be used for more than display purposes. There is nothing in the way of DWR treated nylon, good wools without weird patterns, or anything you'd use on a project. The colored leathers are not usable for anything other than mocking up (meaning they'll rub their dyes all over everything they touch - you can't seal these unless you want it to feel like plastic).
  • The fabric selection is out of this world! Be prepared with a project before you grace the doors because the amount of choices are endless. The racks go from the floor to the ceiling and the isles are small. A designers delight!

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
