Meatpacking District, New York City

Categories: Neighborhoods, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
Hip bars, restaurants, and boutique clothing shops dominate this reinvigorated historic neighborhood known as Meatpacking District. Officially called Gansevoort Market, the district formerly housed most of the city's meat distribution companies, but regrowth has made it one of the trendiest areas in the Big Apple. During the day visit exclusive boutique clothing stores, and at night visit the district's restaurants and clubs, keeping an eye out for celebrities. In this area you'll find the Ground Zero Museum Workshop, which exists to aid in the understanding of what happened during the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. The district is also home to the High Line, a park built on a raised railway line, which sits 11 m (35 ft) above the street. Meatpacking District is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, New York City Edition.

  • It is a small area formed by a 6 or 8 blocks located in the neighborhood "Greenwich Village" on the banks of the River, which were formerly destined for slaughterhouses and refrigerators. They are located at the end of the High Line Park. Currently the buildings have been perfectly restored transformed into bars, nightclubs and local and fashion boutiques, restaurants, art galleries and culture. Ideal to go on the end of the afternoon and stay for the night!
