  • For lovers of sport, for both music lovers the Madison is a place of worship. It is impressive to see inside, tour their secrets and be able to see private suites, the costumes for the Knicks... But it has to be spectacular to see it vibrate during a concert or NBA game.

  • Elton John played his 60th birthday party at The Garden. He claims that it is acoustically perfect. It is his favorite venue on the planet. Well - that settles it then. This is my first time at MSG. We're seeing Billy Joel (the only non-sport Franchise at MSG). He certainly didn't disappoint - and offered a great set list. Billy Joel, incidentally, has his number (13) hanging from the rafters - nice! We were high up - and nonetheless, the acoustics were very good. Ingress and egress were almost effortless (and Billy Joel sells out - so there were many people (I'm guessing north of 40,000.
  • First time here was for Big East tournament. Went to all the games. Great experience, must be just about the best place to watch basketball. Better than average food selection, expensive beer of course. Security was very efficient getting us in fairly quickly. If you get there early enough to grab a spot at Pensy, I recommend it.
  • It's Madison square garden, no review necessary. But it is a great place to see a show. Parking can be a hassle on the night of a Ranger game or concert. Use a parking app if you have one. Lots of places to eat around the building. Very clean inside.
  • Saw Billy Joel 5/25. Fantastic concert - expect a mix of album tracks and big hits. He does a 7 song "encore", so worth noting if you're trying to get out and beat the crowd. MSG loses a star for the chaos of trying to exit - it takes forever and it's crowded and slow. Great venue with plenty of bathrooms though, and easy to navigate.
  • Went to see a Knicks game. On a nice day, not bad to walk to from Grand Central train station. Getting in was simple enough, not a huge wait. There were several lines to get everyone in quicker. Simple enough to find your seat too. Food and beverage are expensive of course. However, lines for food was a bit long and the bathroom line at half time was long too.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
