Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.

  • This is a must experience. The whole market is eye candy. Filled with beautiful, exotic looking items. Beautiful fish market, spices, fruit and veggie stand, and the bakery! I loved this place.
  • I absolutely love the selections and the markets available here! Murray's and Pescatore are a couple of my favorites but there's always something to find here for the foodie, from chocolate to farm-to-table to even spices! And the people working there are knowledgeable and very helpful!
  • Good selection of foods, tending towards the more chi-chi and trendy. Eli's Bread is excellent as is Murray's Cheese. Some others a bit too precious but then this caters to a well-off clientele who wouldn't be caught dead in a local supermarket.
  • Lots of unique food and flowers. Frequented by locals and tourists. Not a place for lunch but a place to buy food for later. I love the place
  • A must visit place near the Grand Central terminal. Lots of local shops. Lilac's chocolate shop had some great flavours to try.
