We went here this morning but we were a bit disappointed, there are work in progress and pictures are not OK with the scaffolding, I'm sorry I wasted no time.

As of 10 July it is still under renovation, nothing to see except a sign that says that. This also makes it hard to find.  more »

Sadly, the building was covered due to renovations when we visited in mid June. The only photo opportunity is the novelty pavement chalk marking outside the door entrance.  more »

Not bad, not bad at all for a building that should be condemned. There's serious metal fatigue in all the load-bearing members, the wiring is substandard, it's completely inadequate for any power needs, and the neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone.

If you are a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle then it is 100% your responsibility to have a movie night and introduce a child to The Ghostbusters. The next morning wake up, go have a great breakfast out in the city and then go see this building, take some pictures and make a good memory. For over 100 years the Hook & Ladder # 8 building has been an active Fire Station and the headquarters of the Ghostbusters. Everyone knows that this historic building has been featured in Ghostbusters & Ghostbusters 2 but it has also been in an episode of Seinfeld and in the movie Hitch. Quick facts: * There is a Lego set based on this building (Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters). * The firefighters from Hook & Ladder #8 were some of the first responders on 9/11. * The building was originally twice it's size but was halved in 1913 to widen Varick St. * In 2016 a $6 million dollar project began a full renovation of the building.

Visited this building in March 2017.... unfortunately it was wrapped in plastic because of construction work... too bad

The building is under renovation right now, so you won't see much, just the Ghostbusters Logo on the street.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
