  • Simply amazed that a genuine Egyptian obelisk dating to 1600 BC can actually exist in Central Park. One of the most interesting and very cool treasures in this city full of endless things to discover.  more »
  • This historical monument is in Central Park near the Metropolitan Museum. In your base was buried a chest containing relics.

  • One of two obelisks relocated from Cairo. The twin monument is in London. I found this to be one of the most interesting things I visited in Central Park.  more »

  • This is a beautiful Egyptian monument, but like all other obelisks scattered across the Western world, this piece of art should be returned to its rightful owner. Thinking of that took away from the experience, which is why I rate this place a strong 4.
  • To me, one of the most unique sights in New York. If you like history at all and you're in New York you must stop by and see it.
  • Easily comfortable place. Cleopatra's needle, the Obelisk. Nice to have here in the city. And I read that its the oldest monument in the city. 3400 years old
  • This is the oldest public monument in New York City. It was commissioned in 1425 B.C.E., making it more than 3500 years old. It was gifted to the US from the Khedive of Egypt in 1869. It took more than a year to transport and install this obelisk. It was moved twice until it's current final location behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art in January 1881.
  • This is a neat stop off in the park to learn about the oldest monument in New York. The recent renovation has really made it an alluring spot.
