  • I never thought I would find myself at Christie's auction house in New York, but there I was on a Saturday afternoon in late October. I had read that Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi" would be on d...  more »
  • This is basically a free museum with unique items that change often. We will definitely go next time we are in the city, just for fun viewing and culture!  more »
  • One morning last week my wife and I attended an auction of valuable Rolex watches at Christie's. The winning bids ranged from as "low" as $22,000 to a high of $500,000. The drama of some of the auctio...  more »

  • I signed up on their online auction site and as a courtesy to new customers, they offer a free appraisal of an item. I have an old Native American beaded dress that I wanted to know the value of so I took photos, measurements, and uploaded all this onto their website. Then I completed their online form about the description of the item, etc. Total time spent was about an hour. I received the email from them that they had received my submission and that they would get back to me within a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks go by and I get an email from a Lucy H.(Google does not allow the use of full names) stating that they do not do appraisals on Native American artifacts - WHAT? I had spent an hour of my time getting everything to them and nowhere on their website do they have a list of items that they don't do appraisals on. Nowhere on their website do they state they don't do appraisals on Native American artifacts. I called and spoke with a very rude lady named Kerri and she just argued with me. I told her to have a supervisor call me back so will wait and see if they do. So a warning to anyone signing up on their website, don't fall for the "Free Appraisal" scam they have listed on their website that they use as a carrot to dangle in front of you just to trick you into signing up on their website; otherwise you will probably be wasting your time just like I did. One hour of my time totally wasted because of this scam.
  • Just facts: I'm a known customer and wanted to purchase a watch in an online sale. Before the auction they didn't request me the optional Id card and proof of address. I paid immediately the watch by credit card with an € 190 extra cost for shipping to receive it before 24/12/2017! Today 5/1/2018 I asked them (Christine Broski) why I didn't received the watch and they told me it was because I didn't send my documents and now I have to wait more!
  • The best place in NYC for auctions. A must see for a art lover. Just stay tuned with the different sales they are offering seasonal. Won't never regret.
  • World Class auction house. Browse at your and your bank account's own risk. :/)
  • I prefer Sotheby's location over this Midtown gridlock

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
