Department Store Shopping
Visit the flagship store of Century 21, a popular Northeast's department store chain. The retailer offers designer merchandise at significantly reduced prices. Shop for men's, women's, and children's clothes, bags, shoes, home furnishings, and cosmetics at up to 65 percent off retail prices. This particular branch of the family-owned business has a special sentimental value to New Yorkers. After 40 years of operation, the store was badly damaged as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attack. It reopened five months later to much jubilation from its band of loyal shoppers. Be warned: It can get very crowded and busy. Using our international travel planner, New York City attractions like Century 21 can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • There are several C21 outlets in NYC. People come from all around the world to do their discount shopping. You can find designer labels which might sell at $5,500 reduced to $2,000. I found a Men's ja...  more »

  • The redesign has greatly improved the store. This place is always congested. Tourists, mostly, pack the floors and make navigating the aisles into a ninja exercise. But the renovations brought more light, more breathing room, better organization of departments, and an overall better shopping experience. There is still a certain level of chaos you'll have to tolerate but it's no longer insufferable. You still have a broad selection at decent prices. This store does need a full honesty exposé to determine where and under what conditions their heavily discounted goods are made. Many of the boutique name items are bottom rung throwaways that would never see shelf time in uptown stores. They often sell just the name without the quality. But the selection is excellent and prices won't choke you blue.
  • Great deals and a huge selection on everything. The only thing I don't like is how packed it gets with tourists. Avoid it on the weekends, you're better off going at some point during the week.
  • Love shopping at C21, you can find amazing deals on clothes but sometimes you have to search. I love the lingerie section but I rarely find my size sometimes. I usually go early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
  • Always so HOT in the store! No air flow. Got what I came for, but the heat and all the European tourists make this store a bit of a misery. Take the trip on the R to the 86th Street stop in Bay Ridge. It's for us locals. ;-)
  • My experience shopping in this store was great today. They have extremely good prices on named brand items. And they have a variety of sizes (which is always great in discount department store) in clothing . The only reason I give this store 4 stars is because a few of the employees would just brush me off when I asked for help. I don't blame them because it was the end of the day and nearing the end of their shift. I'm sure they were just tired. I could have spent hours in there going through the vast amount of items they had. Be careful when going to pay for your order because I waited in line to pay in cash and some of the cash registers only take debit/credit. This was also frustrating.
