#1 of 50,528 in Things to do in United States
Scenic Walking Area Landmark
In the midst of all of the city's concrete and high-rises, Central Park brings greenery and shady places for relaxation--as well as a zoo, carousel, skating rink, theater, and several fountains--to the northern part of the city. Stroll, bike, picnic, or people-watch among 341 hectares (843 acres) of lakes, jogging paths, woodlands, walkways, lawns, and trees. One of the country's major historical landmarks, the park hosts frequent concert, plays, and art shows. Stop by the Alice in Wonderland statue, a favorite place for photos. • The Central Park is very big and has many possibilities. We are only here by the southernmost part of the park and have the John Lennon Memorial (strawberry fields) visited. Furthermore, it concerns an overgrown city park. Nice to have seen but no top attraction.

  • This is an amazing space, loads to see and do, have never seen the need to do the carriage rides so can't comment on them....but I love exploring Central Park on foot Have been on several occasions an...  more »

  • Beautiful, huge, activities, view of the skyline. You get it all here. Do not miss the boating opportunity from the boat houses. You can also rent bicycle and cover more of the park. The central zoo is good for what it is. Carry loads of water if you do not want to buy from the carts as it gets expensive. Best time to be there is summer.
  • It's a really great park in the middle of Manhattan. It's totally walkable, you can just wander around and you will come across a playground or pond here and there. There are pedicabs, food trailers and horse drawn carriage everywhere. Then you have things like the metropolitan museum that ring the park. You can easily spend days just walking around and still not see everything..
  • Central Park is one of the many reasons why I love NYC. You can walk around the park and forget that you're in the middle of a city with tall buildings and millions of people. Look for saxophone players or bands; they're really good. Or even join tourists and check out people acrobatically jumping over others. If you run the running trail that loops around the park, it's around 6 miles; a good distance for anyone who's into running. The park offers so much more than what's said in this review. The only way to really know is to visit and appreciate :)
  • Awesome lung space in the middle of the concrete jungle that is New York ! Great place for kids to unwind, stretch their legs. If you have a toddler, I encourage you to definitely visit this place and let them off the stroller so they can open up their legs. My son loved to see the ducks in the pond. And if you are a movie buff, you can relate to many movie scenes shot here....
  • One of the most beautiful gems in the heart of Manhattan. You could spend your whole day in this park. It's peaceful yet exciting always something going on. One of the best places for a wedding, horse and carriage ride , a stroll, a date, a picnic, a run, biking or just to get away. I have been walking this park for years and recently discovered a new part. I look forward to the peace of mind I find here. This park also has a swimming pool and baseball games going on during the summer. Although it's in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city... This park offers so much to New Yorkers and Non New Yorkers alike.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
