Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.

  • This place is an oasis. That borders the river for about 7 blocks. And is the home fir strollers, walkers, bike riders, dogs. Couples and kids. Two separate dog parks are here and a fabulous view of t...  more »
  • Having lived in the neighborhood I have been to this Park many many times. Highlights really all the walk on the river, and the mayors mansion. They're a little areas where dogs are allowed to play on...  more »
  • Thing I miss most about our E89th street walk up is this park. Lovely in so many ways. Nice at night with great views of the Triboro Bridge. Take the dog for a long walk. find a spot to read a book or...  more »

  • Cool park, they have ice skating and a bunch of other neat activities. I would definitely go again and spend a few hours. It's a nice place to hang out, since its right on the water and has good views of the NJ skyline.
  • I love this park. Mostly locals but great for picnic and quality time with family. Very clean and peaceful.
  • Peaceful oasis at far east end of Yorkville (Upper East Side) area. Sit on a bench and read a book, picnic on the lawn, or start a several mile run up the river and into Randall's Island. Less touristy than Central Park, and very well maintained.
  • Beautifully maintained park. Beautiful views of the river. A lot of amenities. There's one witch of a worker in the park that will talk to you in a degrading manner if you have your dog off the leash. Her day is probably ruined if she doesn't get to complain about something...
  • I love this park. Very discreet by the water. 2 playgrounds for dogs (small and big). A big basketball court. This is a very nice and quiet spot to run or workout after a work day. The Gracie's Mansion is a beautiful house in the middle of the park. A lot of greens, flowers and colors. The park is very well maintained by a volunteer neighborhood program. Squirrels are very friendly. They come to you to check if you have some nuts for them.
