  • An excellent department store. Located slighted away from the shopping areas of 5th Avenue and Madison. This is a really great store. It has even got its own subway access on the lower level of the men’s department. That department is a great to place to shop for both casual and formal wear. The casual area is great. Collections from designers from all over. Well worth a visit for any man with a few hours to pass and browse.
  • Huge shopping ‘mall’ with every known famous designer. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. On the day I went they even gave me a 25% discount because they had marked the boots I eventually bought with the wrong price tag. I was obviously very happy about that. I would go again! Very good shopping experience! It was also very nicely decorated!
  • This Bloomingdale's location is the throne seat. For shopping in the US of A. Service is usually great (experience mostly it high end luxury items and men's clothing) and the selection is phenomenal. There are probably better places to buy a suit if you can spend the money, but for under 1k the selection and the service (including alterations) is unparalleled.
  • I use Bloomingdale's as a convenient way to walk from Lexington Avenue to Third Avenue when it's hot or cold. Dale uses it as one of her "go to" places to shop. She particularly likes their rewards program in addition to their broad supply of high quality goods. She particularly likes to shop there with our grandkids .........especially as we live less than a block away.
  • Here is a good idea of why Amazon is eating their lunch. I placed an order online on my wife's account for in store pickup. I didn't realize that meant my wife would have to pick it up and that I could not. Get it, so called in to change the name. They told me that it could not be done. So let's review: 1. Amazons online site is better to use. 2. Amazon has inventory and would have gotten I to me next day with prime. 3. Amazon would not make me change anything in fact they encourage my entire family to use the same prime account 4. I would not have had to call in to resolve the issue 5. They would have gotten me the item rather than making me cancel the order... 6. I should have gotten it for Amazon that the store 4 blocks from me. Would have thought walking 4 blocks would have been easier but I guess not. The building is an iconic spot in NYC but if they are still stuck in the 30's with their customer service I guess it's time for a change.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
