Nothing rivals the 92nd street Y for culture, music the arts and plain fun. Coming here for a concert and lecture is a fun way to spend a late summer day on a Sunday. I highly recommend for tourists a... read more »
I like the venue. Too bad it requires getting through security with a worse attitude than TSA. Every day I go in I am stopped and searched. I walked directly outside for less than 5 minutes did not wa... read more »
I can never say enough about the treasures available at this venue. I attended Opening Night in October 2015, George Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue performed in its original jazz form by pianist Ted Rose... read more »
I went to school down the street from the 92nd St Y, an icon which moving to many other cities has proven there is no place like it. Best of all, the gym, where you can find excellent personal trainers and helpful staff to help you meet your fitness goals. The Y gym is not one of those pretentious facilities with glorified drill sargeants and narcissistic clientele - it's a true community attached to a historical cultural institution.
Wonderful place to attend events and take classes. That said, I have never come across more bureaucratic, unreasonable security guards in my life, and that has completely annihilated every positive thing I have to say about this place. After living here for almost 8 months, I am completely fed up with the constantly changing security policies and power tripping guards. I would rather have to go through the TSA every time I entered and left the building than deal with these guys.
The 92Y Residence is a fantastic place to live as a student in Manhattan. Since living here (I arrived in August), I have felt extremely safe due to 24/7 security. There are security guards who man the desk at all time and guards who walk around the floors at night. If I have had any issues such as someone being nosy, they have been very supportive in resolving the issue. The location is also fantastic as it is only a 5 minute walk to Central Park and a 5 minute walk to the 86th Subway Station, giving you access to the 456 train. This has been great when I have had family and friends from the UK come to visit. Another advantage is that it is only a 25 minute to Hunter college which is where I study. The cleanliness of the building overall is great. We have weekly housekeeping who change our sheets and cleaners who maintain the bathroom and kitchens too. The residence office staff are amazing too. They are very helpful, welcoming and often put on different events such as movie nights, board-game nights and pizza nights which give us a chance to get to know the residence office staff and also other people living at the Y. I would certainly recommend the 92Y residence as a great place to live.
One of my good friends had the pleasure of staying here and really enjoyed it. I actually am writing this because they just wouldn't stop talking about it so hopefully this will help. The biggest thing he told me was how amazing the staff was to him and how accommodating they were to all his needs. He got there late due to a flight but was still able to check in and get all settle into his space. He was even able to extend his stay another day when his flight got delayed. It was a great space and friendly atmosphere. I even thought about staying there if I needed a vacation!
Really enjoyed my stay here! If you are into board games, checkout the residence office for some great choices.
