42nd Street, New York City

(240+ reviews on the web)
Historic Walking Area
42nd Street is a major crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, known for its theaters, especially near the intersection with Broadway at Times Square. It is also the name of the region of the theater district (and, at times, the red-light district) near that intersection. The street has held a special place in New Yorkers' imaginations since at least the turn of the 20th century, and is the site of some of New York's best known buildings, including (east to west) the United Nations, Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.HistoryEarly historyDuring the American Revolutionary War, a cornfield near the present location of the New York Public Library at 42nd Street was where General George Washington angrily attempted to rally his troops after the British landing at Kip's Bay, which scattered many of the American militiamen. Washington's attempt put him in danger of being captured, and his officers had to persuade him to leave. The rout eventually subsided into an orderly retreat.

  • 42nd Street is the "street spine" that leads to the heart of Times Square. This street leads to Broadway and Times Square. Broadway shows, theater district, restaurants new clubs that are linked off t...  more »
  • If not you walked her several times or if you not downloaded in its magnificent metro station you were not in New York. There is much color and life on this street, you will see the New York of the films. I recommend go both day and night because it looks quite different by the spectacular and colorful lights. You can buy a hot dog or a cup of coffee out there and enjoy the day.

  • It's misleading that this camera shop has such positive reviews. After ordering a camera online for $100 less than it was priced anywhere else, I got a phone call from Peter, a sales rep at the store. Told me I had ordered the Japanese version of the camera and said the US version would be $100 more. I specifically said "no thanks i cannot afford to spend the extra just send me the Japanese version and i will try to find a work around to change the software language." he said "no don't worry about it, I WILL TAKE CARE OF IT" to me that seemed like a genuine offering. When i received the camera i was happy to see "USA" on the box and everything was in English, then I saw my receipt with the full price printed on it! i check my credit card statement and they had billed me the original amount and then ADDED an additional charge of $100 a few days later. THIS IS NOT TAKING CARE OF IT. Not only that but i went back to their site to try to find ANYTHING that said the camera i ordered was a Japanese version..there was only ONE option for this camera on the site, one price, one description. Literally just a scam to get you to buy from them because it's a good deal, but charge you the regular price anyway. If i wanted to pay that price i would have went to B&H....duh. Thank god my credit card company was diligent in fighting this for me and I was able to remove the additional fee and keep the camera i received. Buyer beware and shame on the seller.
  • Great communication and fast shipping. I was impressed by how fast I got my lens. I live in Alaska and usually things take forever to get up here. The lens was in perfect condition and it was packaged so that no damage occurred with the lens. A wonderful buying experience. Will certainly purchase from 42nd Street Photo again.
  • I recently ordered a telephoto lens from 42nd street. The price was great and it arrived well within the time frame I expected. Since I had a new lens, i felt I should upgrade to a Nikon D5500. Michael was willing to work with me on the package, so, I received not only the D5500 for a fair price but also had a UV filter included.
  • Not only did my lens come very quickly, they had the best price around. Also a week later somebody from the store called me to personally make sure I was satisfied. I will do business with 42nd street again
  • I Ordered a new Canon T5i with 42nd Street Photo because of their great reviews and customer satisfaction, but after experiencing it for myself I am completely blown away!!! Not only did an associate call me personally before shipping my camera out but he made sure that it would be delivered correctly checking if I needed a signature to make sure it got to me. All of my additional questions were answered which makes me very comfortable with them, I will be a customer for life now!!!
