  • Nothing touches my soul more than nature and there is plenty of it here. A beautiful place to picnic and enjoy the day. I didn't stay long, but I'd love to go back and find out more about the areas in...  read more »
  • My friend and I (in our 30s) spent a few hours hiking the Lonestar trail, a covered forest hike that had views of Lake Conroe for parts of the hike. To manage expectations, this was a nice hike (for t...  read more »
  • Lake Stubblefield Campground is a wonderful place to go tent camping. Most of the sites are large and separated from each other by trees and brush. Restrooms and showers were very clean. One of the be...  read more »
  • Clean bathrooms, friendly hosts, quiet park that, despite the abundance of summer mosquitos at dusk, is a wonderful escape from civilization. Might be nicer in cooler weather, but at least the camper AC kept us cool during the day. Oh, and watch your nuts. The squirrels are very friendly.
  • The City of Houston is one of the only major cities in America that has a national forest of this size right at its door step. In Texas as there are only two seasons, hot summer and cold summer, this park is accessible to camp and hike year round. The fishing and recreational sports are fantastic. I spent many years in Scouts enjoying this park.
  • Excellent biking! Beautiful scenery! Although come prepared if you visit between May-September as the heat and humidity can be pretty bad at times. Should be fine if you dress appropriately and drink LOTS of water.
  • Great boondocking at Kelly's pond. Expansive forest with lots of trails for hiking, ATV's, horse riding, etc
  • It's a great place for nature walking and see the animals and get away from it all. Has great camping sites and plenty of public hunting land.
