With a story to tell from yesteryear when steamships ran the MN River to bring supplies to the settlers. Original decor in the store, which makes one feel as though stepping back in time to the 19th C...  more »

Not every day we can step in an original store in its original location. The guide explained everything. Worth the small admission which I'm sure helps with maintenance and upkeep.  more »

I recall visiting it in 1970. I often thought about returning the stuff my dad stole from the garage. It was on the east side with a attic full. I think it was owned by Masapoust then. I recall that late summer night after dusk i was by the front garage and she came out the front to feed the kitties. Scared me stiff. It was really stupid.

A nicely maintained General Store from the 1870s. The staff dress in period clothing and are very knowledgable about the local history and the period accurate goods featured in the store. It's a small piece of history that was fun to stumble upon. There is a small gift shop.

Don't miss this hidden gem. Old post office / general store filled with items that were sold back in the day. Gift store has some unusual and interesting items. Books, maps and old fashioned candy.

Before making a special trip to see the Harkin Store, there is a per person fee involved to get in. I saw a sign for the store when visiting a local state park. I made the trip over to see what the store had to offer. When I got to the top of the steps, a gentleman had stopped me and said there was a fee to get in. I didn't have cash on me, but I doubt I would have paid the fee anyway. I was quite sad to see about 12 - 15 other people forced to turn around due to the cost and/or not having cash. Even though it was out of my way, the scenic byway drive was enjoyable.
