The New Smyrna Sugar Mill Ruins is a historic site in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, at 600 Old Mission Road. On August 12, 1970, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.In 1830 a steam sugar and saw mill were erected at this site. 5 years later the mills and other buildings were destroyed by Native Americans. The site was further altered by soldiers who were garrisoned there to keep an eye over the SeminolesThe ruins were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 1970, reference number 70000192.

  • Enjoyed reading the info placards about history of the sugar mill. There is a short walk thru a level path that shows a lot of the local vegetation that I don't get to see in Tennessee. Took less than...  more »
  • A bit difficult to find but worth the effort, especially for history buffs. About 1/2 hr is all that is needed. Shaded and restrooms. We didn't see the nature trail nor any botanical garden.  more »

  • A piece of old Florida preserved. Looks like some of Henry Flagler's work but no one knows for sure..Is it possible to burn coquina to the ground? I didn't think so but who knows...
