  • We absolutely love Dunes Park. Very dog-friendly, and absolutely lovely. Great view of the lighthouse, calm warm water, and a boardwalk. What more could you as for? One tip: Bring cash! It's $10 for t...  read more »
  • We love to walk, and finding this boardwalk was a treat for us. Lots of side jaunts out to the water, overlooking the Ponce de Leon lighthouse. Adults and kids alike would enjoy this.
  • Boardwalks to permit walking over the dunes. Did not seem to be worth the $10 per car cost to visit. We were already staying on the beach so not really a good stop for us. We stayed less than 10 minut...  read more »
  • Everyone is talking about how it's dog friendly. We brought our dog and we're surprised that dogs are confined to a small area of the park. You can't take them on the boardwalks or on the actual beach. All you get is a beach area along the inlet, can't even see the ocean. Additionally they must be on a leash. Honestly, what's the point? Just take the dog to a less crowded beach anywhere in FL and you'll save $10 and have a better time. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I've been here before and the human friendly areas are amazing.
  • 2 words: SAND FLIES/FLEAS! Came here on a beautiful and bright Sunday. We didn't last 10 minutes on the shore before the horrific sand flies (and fleas) came attacking. They practically ate my 4 yr old grandson alive. He was screaming horridly, and suprisingly my Labrador was unbothered by them. We tried to stick it out for atleast an hour, since we drove long ways to get to New Smyrna Dunes, but we were sad to cut the trip extremely short. We didn't last 45 minutes before we had to leave on such a gorgeous sunny day. Came home and we had terrible bites that lasted for almost 4 days. My grandson was covered head to toe in welts. It was supposed to be a nice relaxing Sunday for the weekend with my grandson and my beloved Lab. He was very sad, as he absolutely loves beach trips. I don't think we will be visiting again. Our last experience was absolutely horrible and wouldn't wish it on anyone else! P.S: the beach water was also a bit mucky. Sticks, floating objects, a bit of bugs, and the water was browning. Looked more like a lake! I don't know how healthy or safe it is to be swimming in water that boats pass around all day? (On another note, New Smyrna Dunes is quite peaceful and has a decent view. Not much space, but can be relaxing. Unfortunately, it seems as if it is only worsening though?!)
  • Great park. Nice views, friendly people, and quite remote and somewhat peaceful. I went here because it is the only "dog friendly" beach in my area, and I had been longing to take my 2 dogs somewhere for a beach experience. The only problem I had was the space and parking fee. The dog beach area is quite small. They block off a huge part of it that doesn't allow dogs, and they don't give you enough land-to-water zone. People were setting up close to us because they had ran out of space. (And I mean REALLY close). Also, the beachfront is close to the water. People will walk all over your things and set-up area because the water rises close to the sand. They had SO many plants behind us, I feel the New Smyrna Dunes landscapers should clear some of the plants to make for a bigger spacing. Also, they should elongate the beach. The beach gets packed pretty quickly, and before you know it, your things are mixing with theirs! Secondly, the fee. If they are going to give us such a minimal amount of space to enjoy the beach, plus the 5min walk (carrying loads of chairs, towels, dogs, and coolers on hot sand), then the fee should be lowered. I am spending $50 to drive an hour and 30mins to have to share crowded space, crowded waters, just to have to put another $10 out to park my car! And on top of it, only got to be there for an hour because the beach was getting packed and the water was getting taken over. If they gave the dog-beach more space (and I mean ALOT more space), then this would be an all-around perfect beach. I wouldn't even mind the 5 minute walk or the $10 parking fee. But the space is what really throws it off. I could hardly throw a ball for my dogs because it was getting too crowded. I will be coming back, but not too often because it isn't totally worth it. If FL comes out with a bigger dog beach that has better spacing and plenty of room for dogs to play without having to worry about mixing with others....New Smyrna Dunes will be out of business!! Great place, but the fee and spacing really makes you not want to visit often. 3 stars
  • Amazing beach. By far the most beautiful in new Smyrna. There's no sight of hotels or houses, very private. Tons of marine life constantly coming through, especially manatees. And Everyone complaining about sand spurs, it's nature? Are people suppose to personally pick them off the ground? Or should we spray pesticides and kill our Gopher tortoises? Put some shoes on. It's only a long walk if you go to the far beach. There's two... the far one is much better since youre closer to the jetties and have a lot more beach access. Me and my pup come here every week and wouldn't change one thing about it.
  • We were only in the "dog" section, as we had a dog. Florida is generally not at all dog friendly. We much prefer CA to FL for this reason. The dog section is only a few feet of sand that you reach after walking for 10++ mins down a path cut thru 4' tall overgrowth. Its actually a slightly claustrophobic experience. For the tiny bit of sand, its not worth the walk.
