Mardi Gras World, New Orleans

(3,000+ reviews on the web)
Specialty Museum Museum
Set alongside the Mississippi River, Mardi Gras World creates floats for the world-famous festival and its accompanying parades. Blaine Kern Studios (the company that sponsors the tours) serves as a major supplier for many Mardi Gras festivities and builds the set pieces from scratch. You can tour the warehouse to discover the methods, techniques, and processes used in their production, plus you'll get a glimpse industry's history. Bring a camera--the tour allows up-close photos of the floats as well as an opportunity to take pictures in a classic Mardi Gras costume. A shuttle pick-up from downtown New Orleans is included in the price of the ticket. • I've never been to Mardi Gras and never had much of a desire to go. But after having been through Mardi Gras World and seen how extraordinary and creative the floats are, I'm now inspired to go. The cost of the tickets is high, but if you want a behind the scenes look of some of the things that go into Mardi Gras, then this is worth at least one visit. I can see me coming back here every few years.
  • Cool place to see lots of Mardi Gras stuff. This Is the working studio and warehouse of Kern Studios. Tour begins with a 15 minute video and a "free" piece of King cake then its off to the studios and the warehouse. It's pretty cool to see the design and build process and look at all the stored pieces but the whole tour (without video) is only about 20 or 25 minutes, then they leave you inside the warehouse to wander around on your own. Is it worth $20 a person? Probably not but it was a rainy day and we were looking for something to do. Addendum - our tour guide was very good. He knew all the history and was knowledgeable about the krewes, the floats, the parades, etc. Without him this tour would have been a bust
  • Great place with the kids! They also have a little shop!! They also have a 15 minute show about Mardi Gras and you get king cake🍰 (It tastes just like a cinnamon roll!) Go there it is very cool!!🎭
  • Once you get past the heat, you start to feel super small in a warehouse of large floats and status. To see people working, you know it's so much more than a parade. Fantastic and super fun!
  • Really fun place! Love that they tell you and show you how these amazing floats are made. We were able to get tickets off of Groupon so it was definitely worth the price to go. Even at full price if you are needing a change of scenery from Bourbon street this would be a great option!
