Garden District, New Orleans
(4.6/5 based on 5,500+ reviews on the web)
Noted for its well-preserved antebellum private mansions and meticulously manicured gardens, Garden District serves as a reminder of the city's golden years of prosperity. You can take a guided walking tour of this photogenic neighborhood, where residents take great pride in their well-cared-for properties. Some mansions even open their doors for special-event tours, allowing visitors a quick peek at their English-style gardens. Originally laid out in the 1820s, the neighborhood first attracted "new money" residents looking to outshine one another by building and continuously expanding their Greek Revival houses. Visit the neighborhood's lower district where you can explore trendy boutiques, bars, and restaurants. Put Garden District on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our New Orleans trip itinerary maker.

  • Took trolley to the garden district. We should have done our homework first so that we would have a plan on what to do. Lots of walking. Some sidewalks were in very bad repair which made it had for so...  more »
  • Sorry I personally wasn't impressed. I thought I would see big plantations with large gardens I was very wrong. However the tour guy was very nice!
  • It can be in the Green tramway from the Centre. Each trip is worth something from 1.5 dollars and must be paid with just change. Travel through this area is fantastic as a House is more beautiful than other so hard to choose. When we visit the Lafayette cemetery guided the Guide made us a tour of the area stopping at several of the most representative homes and telling his story and domestic details that add much attraction to the area. Therefore it should be go with guide or read a little earlier to know what to look at.
