  • Have been here several times to enjoy the small, but choice selection of books. The staff has always been spot on with their recommendations, especially about Southern literature and history.  more »
  • Easy to miss but so close to all the other tourist spots! Tiny shop but filled with great quality books. It's organized and the woman at the desk was very helpful.  more »
  • If you're a fan of Southern writers, then don't miss this place. Found a beautiful first-edition Sherwood Anderson here at an attractive (affordable!) price. Very close to Jackson Square where you can...  more »

  • Nestled in the French Quarter's Pirate Alley, this shop served as home to Ernest Hemingway when he wrote his first novel. He went on to complete several others in the small home. It is now an amazing rare book store. Highly highly recommended.
  • A very very cool spot to visit! I heard about this store on Anthony Bourdain's show and knew I had to go. Plan to spend a little time here, as there are many rare, first editions to look through. I bought a book by Faulkner to get the authentic experience!
  • Loved the shop!!! Small place filled with bookiesūüėČbrowsing. You can talk books there and owners read. Yeah!!!
  • Small but filled book shop with lots of classics and great help from the woman that worked there
  • Amazing. Amazing amazing. Go here. Love books? Go here. Like books? Go on. Like the smell of books? Well go on in, silly! Intended to look around, left with two books. Beautiful space even if you're only browsing.

Where to stay in New Orleans

Though you can walk to most tourist attractions in New Orleans from a hotel in the central business district, remember that many other parts of town feature less expensive and equally comfortable accommodations. Smaller hotels and private guesthouses in quiet residential neighborhoods offer not only good local food and spacious rooms, but can also allow you to explore the city's culture away from overwhelming tourist crowds. To reduce your carbon footprint during your stay, consider one of French Quarter's many green or eco-friendly hotels.
