Where to stay in New Orleans

Though you can walk to most tourist attractions in New Orleans from a hotel in the central business district, remember that many other parts of town feature less expensive and equally comfortable accommodations. Smaller hotels and private guesthouses in quiet residential neighborhoods offer not only good local food and spacious rooms, but can also allow you to explore the city's culture away from overwhelming tourist crowds. To reduce your carbon footprint during your stay, consider one of French Quarter's many green or eco-friendly hotels.

  • What a gem!! The tour features a furnished apartment home on Jackson Square. Which is the whole reason that Jackson Square is there in the first place. The Baroness Pontalba was quite a character wove...  more »

  • This was an interesting little hole in the wall museum. A house preserved as it would have been in the year 1850. Very interesting..
  • This historic townhouse can be seen in a self-guided tour or with a docent. The house consists of three bedrooms, a parlour, dining room, a small kitchen, an office (?) , all of which were furnished to reflect the 1850s. If you want to see a bit of history but don't have time or don't wish to visit a museum, you could tour this in 10 minutes or take more time with a docent. Note: Narrow stairs and walkways.
  • Came here during lunch time and the place was empty! We had the whole house for ourselves to explore. Educational and docents were extremely informative. Stay an hour and take a look around to have a feel of what it was like living here in 1850.
  • I'm giving this 4 stars. But don't expect a lot. It's just an example of a house in 1850. Neat stuff. If you're into interior design (like the girl who would be my girlfriend), you'll love it. It will only take 45 mins to an hour to go through, so it won't take your whole day up, and it's about 200 feet from 2 other museums in the Jackson Square area.
  • Took us a while to make sense of the pottery exhibition, but enjoyed this quick historical stop.
