Where to stay in Santa Fe

Though the downtown area contains most of Santa Fe's finest hotels, you can find plenty of equally comfortable inns and motels just outside this busy central district. Remember also that most of the city's centrally located hotels raise their prices during the height of the tourist season, so it is essential to look for deals and make reservations well in advance. To experience the true spirit of outdoor New Mexico while on holiday, consider sleeping under the stars at a campground just a short drive from Santa Fe's major urban attractions.

  • I have done numerous hikes here. Some of the great ones are: Windsor Trail, Hamilton Mesa Trail and Hermit Peak Trail (has many crosses on top for worship put there by the Penetentes).  more »
  • Absolutely a must do if you have a vehicle while in the Santa Fe area especially during the winter snowy months. The panoramic views are breath taking. Be sure to have your phone or camera battery cha...  more »
  • So beautiful! I visited this location this past weekend to see the aspen trees and the fall colors. So absolutely gorgeous! Would definitely go back for next fall  more »

  • Always a nice place to go either for a quick day trip or camping. The only downside is that the popular areas to camp are completely primitive. At the same dumpsters would be nice. Fishing is a hit and miss from one week to the next. Roadways are well kept. Even without the dumpsters all the sites remain clean. A lot of forest thinning as been done so there is no shortage of campfire wood.
  • I loved it.. Even though I wish it had bathrooms and showers, the place is beautiful and the river was awesome to camp next to. Note: you can drive up and find a spot next to the river and camp... Anywhere! I recommend finding one with a fire pit though.
  • A MUST for hikers and bikers! This is a great experience for the beginner to backcountry hiker and intermediate level mountain bikers. Hundreds of miles of trails that traverse through pine and Aspen groves, it's a paradise for the outdoor enthusiasts. Be ready for a bit of altitude and bring water and snacks. The trails start anywhere from about 8000 to 10000 feet with the Aspen Vista trail (one of the higher up trails) topping out at 12000 feet and offering expansive views of the area. Trails are well marked and there are maps at many of the trailheads. Enjoy!
  • One of the great places to visit in town. The fact that a beautiful place like this is a short drive from downtown is amazing... Tons of hiking trails.
  • Hikes, hikes, hikes. Just A few minutes outside of Santa Fe and you're in the middle of one of the most beautiful forests. There are dozens of hikes, all beautiful, with a range of difficulty from easy to make-your-legs-spaghetti-tomorrow difficult. I recommend the Alamos Vista trail.
