New Market Battlefield Military Museum, New Market

Owned and operated by John M. Bracken, New Market Battlefield Military Museum offers much to see. The majority of the collection consists of items from the American Civil War. There are original items from ancient Egypt, World War II, and everything in between. And this is all the private collection of John M. Bracken. This is the most impressive Civil War museum in the state of Virginia if not the east coast, and no one leaves disappointed!

  • This is simply an amazing collection of artifacts from an individual's private collection. Think of it as touring a building which houses someone's lifelong passion - collecting military artifacts. Be...  more »

  • This privately owned museum is home to one of the most interesting collections I've seen outside of the Smithsonian. Built on a Civil War battleground, the museum has extensive civil war related exhibits and so much more! Also included are tons of interesting artifacts from the Revolutionary War, and Native American exhibits. The entrance fee is reasonable and allows you to return the next day at no additional charge. We had a picnic lunch on the grounds. Love this place!
  • A beautiful museum filled with so much history and knowledge. It was so interesting to find out it was a private museum. And the people were so incredibly kind and they let our puppy come in with us so we could look around. So wonderful!
  • Loved the history and walking around. It was an incredible battle that children helped win. I was disappointed to not see an American flag flying at the site. It was a battle lost by the Union, but museums should reflect respect for the U.S. soldiers and fly the flag.
  • So much great information. Well displayed. Take your time or you will miss something.
  • Had a great time with the family Even the boys were enjoying the history. Lots of rare finds to look at and polite helpful staff
