  • This is a wonderful site for anyone interested in mid-century modern architecture, modern art, or an exceedingly unusual stroll in beautiful Connecticut countryside. Initially, I'd assumed that the on...  more »

  • One word: fantastic. Go! Go again in a different season and see the landscape change. Take a mini weekend adventure from manhattan, the glass house visitor center is about a 1 minute walk from the metro north stop in new Canaan. The grounds are stunning, and kept to Philip Johnson’s exacting standards, not to mention the glass house itself and the other exhibits you can see around the property, including his newly renovated painting gallery. Tours have to be booked in advance- check this architectural marvel off the bucket list!
  • Great and informative tour and guide. Funny that the least impressive structure on the property was the glass house.
  • An incredible experience for any modern arts and architecture fanatics out there! I took an incredible 2.5 hour tour of the property with a fantastic guide leading a small group of us throughout the property. I would definitely go back and do a self guided walking tour the next time as you only see so much depending on the tour you've signed up for. Highly recommended if you are in the NYC area or Connecticut for a fantastic afternoon out!
  • Make reservations to the Glass House and its other buildings at least one month in advance to reserve a place on the tour of this famous architect's home in New Canaan and a ride on the bus that leaves from the Glass House Visitor Center on Elm Street to visit Philip Johnson's estate on the west side of town. You'll spend most of the day touring the architect's home while stopping to enjoy the magnificent works of art in the painting and sculpture galleries, works of art by themselves. Make a donation to the Glass House celebrating its tenth anniversary as a public museum. Call to take a private tour of the uniquely beautiful architecture of the Visitors Center downtown.
  • I've been waiting for this tour for a year. Finally, I visited Philip Johnson's Glass House which is inspired by Mies van set Rohe's Farnsworth House. When you see it in person, Glass House is in a weird scale and less permeability such as the very narrow bathroom's door, low ceiling, and no ceiling lights. I've seen his concept is delivered by composition of materials and perfect geographic location. However, the entire site is composed by different copies that from ancient Egypt or Greece or other masterpieces. It is a good place for visiting to get know the modernism movement in America. #philipjohnson #newcannan #connecticut #glasshouse
