Nelson's Green Brier Distillery, Nashville

Distillery · Food & Drink
Find out the differences between Tennessee whiskey, bourbon, and moonshine at Nelson's Green Brier Distillery. Housed in the historic Marathon Motors building, the distillery was opened by two of the great-great-great-grandsons of Charles Nelson, founder of the original distillery. Using the brand name of this pre-Prohibition historic distillery, they started producing whiskey using their grandfather's old recipes. The tour includes a walk-through of the production floor and tastings. If you like the taste of caramel, coffee, and pecans, try Louisa's Liqueur, which cherishes the memory of Nelson's widow who took over the business after her husband's death. • What a great semi-planned stop in Nashville. Highly recommend. This was our favorite stop in Nashville. Attended a tasting with another couple the day before another couple was scheduled to join us...  more »

  • If you’re trying to decide which distillery to visit, I recommend Nelson’s. It has a far more interesting than you’ll find at the others, and they make a good bourbon. The Zombie Bite was a good modern twist on the old fashioned. My only regret is not taking the cocktail class. Thanks for a great tour, Daniel!
  • Awesome tour with Kyle!!! He is both knowledgeable of the family history and the whiskey, and very funny as well. My husband and I were both shocked when at the end of the tour he said he was new on the job! What?!?!? I enjoyed hearing about the history and touring the distillery. We learned a lot. And can't forget the tasting and then being able to buy some to take home to enjoy! I would highly recommend this tour!
  • Great tour! Really good introduction to how whisky is made and how to taste. Scott led our tour and he was both super knowledgeable and very funny. I can’t recommend this place enough.
  • My friend and I had a blast on the quick tasting and tour. It's informative but not too nitty gritty in the details of distillation of whiskey, and at the end you get to sample a couple of their products! Definitely worth the wait. Listen to the tour guide during the tasting so you'll maximize your tasting experience. Have a ball!
  • This was an amazing tour. The story and history behind this distillery is amazing. And we learned it all through our amazing tour guide Kyle! I absolutely highly recommend this tour when you are in Nashville! We can’t wait to taste the whiskey that is coming out soon! Please try to distribute to Michigan!!
