Experience Ancient Greece in the heart of Tennessee at Nashville Parthenon, a full-scale replica of the original structure in Athens. The impressive imitation was built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, no doubt influenced by Nashville's moniker, "Athens of the South." Examine the plaster replica of the Parthenon Marbles and the imposing statue of Athena Parthenos. Nashville native Alan LeQuire needed eight years to complete the 13 m (42 ft) tall Athena statue. The building also serves as an art museum with a permanent collection of 63 paintings by 19th- and 20th-century American artists. Nashville Parthenon reviews
so unusual to see this building in the U.S. The fee they charge is worth to view the HUGE statue of Athena. There was a variety of artwork which we also enjoyed. more »
Unlike anything else we've seen in our travels. Worth the visit. Beautiful building and exhibits. Athena statue is amazing. more »
We saw this on the Trolley tour, then came back on a rainy day. The size of the building and statue of Athena are amazing and need to be seen. But we were really impressed with the art collection... more »
Wow! This was the main attraction we wanted to see while in Nashville and it was all we expected and more! Beautifully built, impressive in size and detail (just like the original!), and convenient to everywhere, it will amaze and delight everyone who visits. You can pay to go inside and see all the artifacts and historical info for so much pertaining to the original, as well as this replica. The price is one of the more reasonable for sites in Nashville! The outer part is absolutely free, as is Centennial Park, but touring inside is a mere $8.00!!! Well worth every penny! There are stairs as well as elevators if you have mobility issues and there's plenty of space. The gift shop is also very reasonably priced for souvenir items (not always the case with places like this). The staff are very friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed our visit and plan to come again in the future!
My visit to Centennial Park and the Parthenon was wonderful. The Parthenon was constructed as part of the celebration of 100 years of Tennessee's statehood. There is a small lake on the grounds near the Parthenon with a few ducks. The grounds are well groomed and quite beautiful. The Parthenon is a magnificent structure. The first floor contains an exhibit of beautiful works of art and the grand hall has the statue of Athena. The beauty of the building both inside and without is amazing and the skill of the artisan who crafted the likeness of Athena is beyond duplication. The day I visited the sun was shining, a slight breeze was blowing and a local musician was serenading visitors with beautiful sax renditions of various styles of music. The resonance of his instrument among the columns of the Parthenon made the enjoyment that much better. I strongly encourage anyone who has not visited the Parthenon or Centennial Park to do so. The cost is very reasonable and every penny spent to visit was absolutely worthwhile. I may never get the opportunity to visit Athens Greece. Even if i do, the original Parthenon is in ruins. The people of Nashville are friendly and welcoming to out of town guests. Please, go see the Parthenon and Centennial Park.
Absolutely breathtaking place! To think that this is an exact replica of a temple constructed over 2,500 years ago makes you marvel! The place is amazing and even more so when considering what the original must have been like so long ago. Really beautiful. And the art on display is really a plus. Then, take some time to walk around Centennial Park. Really pretty and peaceful! If you're in Nashville, you MUST see this place!
Very pretty, good price and beautiful art. I just wish they took better care of the outdoor section of the park. My daughter stepped on a fishing hook and it went through her sandals on our way to the car. The small lake was also full of plastic bags and fish hooks in one of the sections.
The Parthenon is a Nashville staple, and still one of my favorite places to go. I absolutely love the attention to detail that was put into the building, as well as the Athena Parthenos inside of it. This landmark has been apart of my life since I was born, with so many beautiful memories tied to it. If you are visiting from out of town, I highly recommend you come take a look at this beautiful building. I'm not sure if anywhere else has a replica, but you can certainly get a feel for Ancient Grecian architecture while here.
