  • It's pretty cool to sit down with a new (or classic) guitar with your daughter, start noodling around, and have a staff member come by and tell you, "Oh, hey, that Taylor guitar you're playing? Yeah, Taylor Swift just bought that exact model from us 'bout 3 weekends ago. She loved how it sounded and looked and had to have it." It'was almost $5,000! They gave us free picks and stickers and encouraged us to come back on our next vacation. Fantastic selection, very nice layout, and plenty of benches for you to sit down and play your next instrument.
  • George Gruhn is basically the originator of the market for vintage guitars. He began circa 1963 in Chicago. I have bought, sold, consigned and traded guitars with this store since the early 1980s when they were at 410 Broadway. Here are some of the many reasons to deal with this store. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and exacting regarding the originality, condition and playability of any instrument in the store. You can buy with confidence because of this. The have excellent utility guitars in addition to collectors investment instruments. Buying over the phone is very easy and you can have complete confidence with them. The store is easy to get to and has excellent parking especially compared to NYC and Los Angeles for example. Some of the staff have worked there since the 1970s meaning that this is a very stable business. I bought a vintage Gibson arch top belonging to jazz guitarist Earl Klugh here and got a great deal on a 1966 ES-175D a couple of years ago. I have consigned many instruments here as well. This is the place to buy and sell. That's it!!!
  • Went to Gruhn's for the first time for my birthday today, my wife took me on a weekend birthday trip, the big 50th, to buy a Martin D-42. The place is just amazing, and as a guitar player it's honestly a bit overwhelming, you could easily spend the entire afternoon just browsing the incredible variety of guitars, dobros, banjo's, etc. Thanks so much to Glen who responded to all my emails quickly, providing any information, answering any questions, same way with the few phone calls I made with questions. Just a great experience, and great people. I also did a lot of shopping around, and no one beat their price. Really felt comfortable buying from a family run business that's been around for years verses the big box guitar stores, not a knock, just an opinion. Awesome experience, and the best birthday present ever----thanks again to Glen, great guy.
  • This place is AMAZING! Vintage to new guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukeleles... As well as accessories. The environment is so appealing, the people are friendly and knowledgeable. It is a tad bit difficult to maneuver in a wheelchair, but I'm not taking away for that.
  • This place is historic for the most part. I miss the old location a bit, but the new one is still nice. Any guitar player would find this shop a dream to visit.
