Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Naples

4.6
#1 of 21 in Wildlife in Naples
Wildlife Area Nature / Park
was created to protect two species of cypress trees that were at risk of being wiped out in the 1940s and 50s. Today it is a National Audubon Society sanctuary. Wet prairie, pond and bald cypress, and marshlands attract regional reptiles and birds. Keep your eyes open for cottonmouth snakes and alligators that prowl the shallow waters. Stroll along the boardwalk, added in 1955, to view the varied ecosystem. • This was my second time to visit the sanctuary. My husband and I arrived early to try to photograph as many birds and wildlife as possible. Saw a lot of egrets, herons and even a kingfisher. Be prepar...  more »
  • We were in Naples a month and visited Corkscrew two or three times a week. It never disappointed. It is a boardwalk that winds through diverse ecosystems and the birding is phenomenal. The lakes are e...  more »
  • The wooden platform is nearly three miles long, you should pack water and sunscreen. Also a bug spray would be helpful. The trail is very nice. The Info Center at the entrance are also very good tips.

  • One of my favorite places in the world. I have been there during many different months and it can be a totally different experience each time, but it is always relaxing. There is such a vast array of plants and animals. Go on a weekday, if possible, as there are fewer visitors. The night hikes are magical.
  • This is definitely a 5-star place to visit if you enjoy the outdoors. They got a terrific selection of birds, butterflies, alligators, etc. They have a wooden walkway to keep visitors out of the swamp and away from the wildlife. It is photographer's dream place to visit. Leave any noisy kids home.
  • I really enjoyed this walk! Excellent information posted throughout the trail, and fantastic views of some monster Cypress trees. A great spot for photographers, bird watchers, or anyone looking to experience some authentic Florida interaction. I would definitely bring friends back here! Oh, and the German woman from Arizona working the admissions and gift shop was super friendly, and helpful!!
  • Great tour on a boardwalk of the Cypress swamp. This gives you an opportunity to see real Florida wilderness first hand and learn a lot about the wildlife. It's good to know the proceeds also go to helping preserve the environment.
  • Being from the north, I found the walk extremely interesting. Seeing all the varieties of plants, bugs and wildlife was eye opening to how different parts of the world can be. Also seeing the size of the stink bugs made appreciate the small ones from home
