Del Dotto Vineyards & Caves, Napa

Categories: Wineries & Vineyards, Food & Drink
Inspirock Rating:
3.9/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web
Step back more than a century at Del Dotto Vineyards & Caves to experience small production winemaking. The original location features a 350-foot wine cave, dug in 1885 by Chinese slave labor. The cave is illumined by candlelight each day. In 2007, the winery expanded to St. Helena Venetian Estate Winery and Caves, a cave crafted with fine Italian marble and detailed Venetian architecture as a nod to the family's Italian roots. Both vineyards produce wines like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. On a barrel-tasting tour, you'll get a guided tour through the caves, where you'll have the chance to sample the wines directly from the barrels. You'll also learn about the difference in barrels and how these variations affect wine varieties. Make a reservation to secure your spot. • The caves are beautiful, the wine they offer to sample is excellent, and Dan is as fun a tour guide as I've ever had. Well worth the cost!
  • End your day at Del Dotto since the pours are extremely generous and there are a lot of them. Be aware it is mainly reds. We were late for our appointment but they were generous enough to still take u...  read more »
  • We too a very nice and informative tour or the caves here. Tasted several wines from the barrel and learned a lot about the different red wines. This is a red wine tour for those that may favor white ...  read more »
  • What terrible service. The old, white bearded man has no professionalism at all. He was short tempered and rude. Because my daughter didn't have an ID with her, he got really upset that she walked through the front door. That guy behaved like a thug bouncer at a dive night club. Worst experience ever at a winery in Napa Valley.
  • I have done the cave tour twice and plan on doing it a third time. Great experience and excellent wines
  • This winery offers a fun and unique wine cave barrel tasting experience that lets you really compare wines side by side that have subtle differences like "same wine, but different type of oak barrel".
  • Great tasting experience in the cave. Both of the tour guides in two trips were very knowledgeable.
  • My wife and I stopped here to make a reservation for the following day since we were driving by anyway. Steve greeted us and allowed us to do a tasting even though we hadn't made a reservation. He was a fantastic taste guide, was very knowledgeable of their wines/winemaking process and even poured a few wines for us in addition to our tasting. When it was all said and done, we had tasted several wines and were even treated to a spontaneous tour of the cave w/ barrel tasting. It was an incredible experience for us, and we will be back. The wines are also fantastic--great Cabs here--and well worth their prices (which, despite a couple reviews here, are actually fairly reasonable for the quality product they put out). We're kicking around joining futures club; it's between Del Dotto and one other vineyard we liked a lot.
