State Park
Pitch a tent and swim, go fishing, or hike at Myrtle Beach State Park. The beach is wide and sandy, and the absence of hotels keeps the area quiet compared to typical beach resorts. Plan a picnic, or ride horses. Children can join nature programs and visit the education center that features displays, aquariums, and reptiles. A campsite with 350 spots for tents and RVs is nestled within a maritime forest; six cabins are available for rent. Remember that there are no lifeguards at the beach. • The beginning of April 2017 the water was pretty chilly, but walking along the beach thru the water was good. You can swim, other people were, and collect some shells (most are chunks or have a hole but a few are okay) and walk down to the hotel part of the beach if you want (don't go to Mama Mia's Pizza if you go there, it is both overpriced and skimpy on toppings on a terrible "industrial" crust - blah). The park doesn't really have paths to walk. The primitive camping is $18- $25, and goes up from there - I don't think they should charge that much. And the store charges $3.05 for one *quart* of milk! Outrageous! That is $12.20 per gallon for plain white milk! The showers are hot, unless someone runs a faucet, then it becomes COLD, quite a shock! I did not see any fire ants, that is good. The ocean for some reason had brown cloudy water when you look down from the fishing pier.
  • Nancy (at the entrance) extremely friendly, best ice cream, nice trails, and clean bathroom always important. Another lady and gentleman near camper entrance nice enough to suggest we ride through the RV/ camper area which was very peaceful and smelled so good from all the friendly people waving hello while grilling out. On the Ocean what more can you ask for.. Laundry got it.
  • I stayed at the beach for $40 a night and you cant complained about that !! Yes it is a 5 minute walk from the campground to the beach but it was a beautiful view while getting there . Enjoyed the pier and watching people fish off it. Bathhouses were clean. Enjoyed walking at night. My site was not real private but some in the back of the campground looked somewhat more private. A Food lion and a Walmart are really close so its easy to run out for forgotten supplies.
  • Best campground in Myrtle Beach for camping. Actual trees and a thick forest provide great shade during the summer. A range of site from full hookups for RV mansions to tent only sites, and cabins. Friendly volunteers and great rangers. Amazing prices as well. Only "downside" is there's no pool or water park... But it's the beach...
  • This is a peaceful and quiet place. All camp sites have water and electricity and the campground has wifi. (I could've lived without all of these) Bath houses are a must for me and camping and there's plenty of these and they weren't super crowded. The area is beautiful, I just wish there had been more trails and things to explore.
