  • This an absolutely lovely place to go for a day-hike or to set up camp. The facilities are clean, everyone is friendly and the trails are gorgeous. There are plenty of routes to choose from, but I prefer those that take you down past the dunes to the beach, at which point you can walk along the beach or cut back into the forest. The trails can be a bit challenging to those with limited mobility, but otherwise entirely family-friendly and safe.
  • On a cool Monday morning in the month of May I took a hike on the Homestead Trail which is located in Hoffmaster State Park. The trail starts and ends in the Gillette Visitors Center parking lot. The marked trail is approximately 2 1/2 miles. Trail maps are available at the visitors Center. It is a scenic Trail with a number of hills to traverse. The highlights of the trail are magnificent views of Lake Michigan, the forest pathway, and the scattered wildflowers - among them were Trilliums and Virginia Bluebells. The hour or so that it took to hike the route was definitely time well spent.
  • Excellent facilities, wonderful dune hiking opportunities--Mr. Baldly was especially fun and challenging. Too bad the beach was not safe for swimming while we were there, but pleasant for watching the sunset over the lake. Would be happy to return again, though I prefer farther north for pure Michigan beauty.
  • It is a beautiful place with great hiking retails. Campground is kids friendly with many activities for little ones. Dogs are allowed on a side beach. Would have given it 5 stars, but the beach was somewhat crowded.
  • Very clean, relaxing, and surrounded by Nature. One of Michigans many beautiful State parks. Well maintained, but not so much of the normal day to day hustle. No matter how many visitors are around the area it is still very very peaceful and gorgeous scenery. My daughter came here for her kindergarten field trip, fell in love with it then. We cannot wait to have many many more adventures here.
