  • We expected more from the visitor center. It was so disappointing. The employee never said hello or acknowledged anyone - just state behind the desk. Their website makes it sound like a worth while vi...  more »
  • I loved this park and it's hiking trails. The five mile loop - Ozark Highland trail/Shepard Springs loop was really great. Lovely views of the lake (especially since all the trees haven't bloomed yet)...  more »
  • Stayed 2 nights in a cabin and will definitely will be visiting again. Cabins are new and very clean. The back patio is really nice too but I wish a fewer trees would be cleared out to see the lake.  more »

  • Loved the campsite. Bummed you could not swim in lake, but said no big deal. Will just go to pool instead. Get to the pool and found out it cost $5/day per person! If you stay in cabins it is free. Other than that it was great. Nice site, quiet and staff was great.
  • Only drove through so no idea on accommodations other than they looked nice from the outside. Very clean grounds. Beautiful views. Boat docks. Would stay given the opportunity.
  • Great views, beautiful park. We immediately saw some deer as we were pulling in the park. They had very clean bathroom facilities. We only stayed one night but we will be back.
  • A beautiful place to go and enjoy mother nature pure beauty. Great hiking trail(s) and a beautiful lake to fish or go out on a boat.
  • As an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast, I sometimes miss the small wonders of Arkansas being so focused on hiking the favorites. I decided to hike the first 5 miles of the Ozark Highland Trail whose trailhead begins at lake Ft. Smith State Park. The trail begins at the visitor's center, and ends 165 miles east near Harrison, AR. The first few miles that circumvent the lake are not very challenging but afford graceful undulations along the trail, crossing multiple small creek beds and streams. You have a nearly constant view of the lake for at last the first 4 miles as you hike clockwise around the north part of the lake. It is a great location for a day hike, returning back to the visitors center or one of the many camp sites for a nice sunset across the lake. Easy to get to off US Hwy 49 to enter the park. Hit the trails!
