  • Would you expect to see lions, tigers and panthers and even a camel in ME? We didn't but there they were along with several other unexpected (hyena, wolve, etc...) creatures right in the woods at the ...  more »
  • This is a haven for animals that have been rescued from the hands of neglectful people. The owners are the most caring and compassionate animal lovers and take complete and total pride in their family...  more »

  • I love this place. For everyone making negative comments...you complain about the price...how much do you think it costs to feed one tiger for a year? Your money if for the animals but if you choose to spend your money at a local shelter...good for you...the money is used the same way but I guarantee that you're not donating $70. Next, these animals came from horrendous conditions and some were on their death bed when they came to DEW Haven. These people love and care for every one of these animals. The enclosures may not be "beautiful" but they run on donations and volunteers. If you want to see "pretty" enclosures I would suggest going to a zoo. This place is a sanctuary for these animals. DEW Haven, keep up the good work!!!!
  • It is a very unusual Zoo here in Maine BUT we'll worth the effort to make the visit! Many, many different types of animals. GREAT for adults and children alike! Up close and personal like you've never experienced at any type of Zoo - very educational!
  • I would rate my experience here at 10 stars if possible. After having read some of the negative reviews here I would challenge any naysayers to show another animal refuge or zoo where the animals are so comfortable the owners can rub the cougars chin or feed the bear from their lips. And every animal comes running for attention when they see him coming. I have been to many different places that care for animals, exotic and otherwise, not one of these animals here ran to the back of it's enclosure in fear as I have seen in other places. As far as the conditions are concerned this is in essence a working farm is the best way to describe it, there are no food vendors or paved walkways, it is strictly about the animals and not the tourists.
  • My wife and I go to DEW a couple times every year and I love it every time. To get that close to some of those large animals is pretty surreal and the fact that a lot of the animals there were rescued from pretty bad situations, I appreciate it even more! Watching the malnourished, abused, etc. animals bounce back to become healthy and happy is really awesome. Bob does a great job with the tours and it seems as though he has a great connection with the animals, which is a nice change compared to most zoos with rotating staff/handlers.
  • Really great place for animal lovers! The man that owns it gives awesome tours and can tell you all about his animals! Definately will be going back...and telling everyone else to go! Thank you we had a blast!
