  • The trail to the lake is just a little above 1 mile long, it is quite a climb up the hill, but the beautiful lake is definitely worth it! We camped there, and were alone for the night - it was very ca...  more »
  • We hiked there on the 4th of July to avoid crowds in the city. Unfortunately we underestimated the difficulty of this hike--there are really many steep ups and downs on the way and we did not feel it ...  more »
  • We didn't go down to Bench Lake but went all the way to Snow Lake. The hike itself is okay, fun but nothing spectacular. However, Snow Lake is very pretty and is definitely worth the hike. The water i...  more »

  • My favorite hike! Check out the Washington Trails Association for recent trip reports and hike details. Protip: once you hit the switchbacks up the ridge there are only 9 of them. Counting them makes the uphill part go by quicker!
  • You have to experience it. It is out of this world. Calm, clear water. Moderately difficult hike. Great place to camp.
  • Awesome lake, peaceful. The trail can get a bit crowded though, still worth it. I think it was about 6 mile round trip, Moderate trail. It was $5 to park. lake not handicap accessible. Bring water...
  • It is beautiful, although all alpine lakes are similar. Only few spot to access the shore. The lookout point from the trail can see the whole lake. It can be slippery if snow on ground.
  • Awesome hike, busy for the first 3 miles on a nice weekend but once you get to the lake everyone spreads out. Well worth the hike.

Where to stay in Mount Rainier National Park

You could visit Mount Rainier National Park on a day trip from Seattle, but you'll probably want to stay in or closer to the park to maximize your time there. The park provides three developed campgrounds and one primitive one with nearly 500 individual sites between them. For extra creature comforts, book a room at either the National Park Inn or the larger Paradise Inn. Many park visitors lay their heads in the villages west of the park along National Park Highway. Places such as Jasper, Mineral Lake, and Alder Lake offer a mix of lodges, inns, and bed and breakfasts, almost all of which deliver full views of towering Mount Rainier. You might also find reasonable summer deals on hotels at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort just north of the park, though this is a less convenient option.
