  • We've been here twice and plan on going again. We're a couple in our late 20s. He's a train enthusiast. The first time we went was a birthday surprise for him. We enjoyed the ride downtown and a brief...  read more »

  • So much fun. Takes me back. Nice ride, not to long not to short. The Conductor was so much fun. Great Views of the town.
  • Great place to take young kids who like trains! Even if you are a big rail fan, you'll love this place!
  • I had Throttle Time on 12 June 2010. It was a BLAST, both figuratively & literally. Driving the Loco, working the controls, whistle & horn blowing. Feeling the Loco purr as the power increased to move. There is NO way to describe the sensations. I would say to anyone, DO IT !!!!!
  • Really enjoyed our trip from depot in downtown Monticello out to the Monticello Railway Museum. It was an afternoon ride with grandma, grandpa, 2 sets of aunts and uncles, and 4 children between the ages of 3 - 6. What a blast! We were able to walk through the whole train, ride in the caboose, and then tour more trains at the museum. After 20 minutes or so at the museum, we boarded the train again for the ride back to downtown Monticello. If your child is sensitive to loud noises, you may want to sit in a car furthest away from the direction your're headed. For example, there is often a long "backup" run from the depot to the museum with the caboose leading. The horns above the lead car (either the engine or the caboose) are fairly loud as the engineer and brakeman signal at each rail crossing.
