Indiana Beach Amusement Resort, Monticello
Categories: Water Parks, Theme Parks, Water & Amusement Parks
The lakeside Indiana Beach Amusement Resort opened its first thrill ride in 1927 and has expanded into a full-scale amusement park over the years. In addition to the thrill rides, a water park helps visitors keep cool on hot days. Check out the daily water-ski show on Lake Shafer, where great feats, including a water-ski pyramid, have been performed since 1959. Tickets for the thrill rides and water park can be bought separately or together. Additional tickets are required for the water-ski show and parking. I grew up going to Indiana Beach, so I remember what it used to be. It's never been a place with huge, daredevil rides. It's never been glamorous (honestly it always had a bit of a carnival feel to me... read more »

God's Kids by Blake Tackett the
We are here at Indiana beach August 20th 2016 and it has been great! They did a lot of up keep and it looks so nice. My kids are 5 and 7 and you think we took them to Disney they are having so much fun! They were able to go on almost all the rides too. I would really recommend coming and we stayed at Pirate's Cove which was a nice cottage right off the lake.
Let me start by saying I enjoy coming here with my kids. We don't expect a Disney experience or even a Six flags type of experience. The park and facilities has an old school charm. I came here with my parents back in early 70's. However, since new owners have taken over in 2015 and according to park staff on my visit over labor day 2016, they have a 5 year plan and have spent 1 million dollars so far. I don't see anywhere in the park that they have improved much since last year. The Management either Corporate on site should take a walk through the park and start a punch list of the obvious. Let me help with a starter list Weeds everywhere/Landscaping needs serious attention! around the waiting lines of rides, broken tree branches scattered everywhere. Bushes in and around tracks of the old fashioned cars and roller coasters are overgrown some even dead and need to be pruned and trimmed. Add fresh gravel in areas, new mulch is beds. I walked out of the men's bathroom near the Ferris wheel and a random used tube of toothpaste littered the ground. Not to mention the bathroom stunk like a sewer. Garbage litters allover the ride area. Plastic bottles, paper, random conduit pipes, cups, straws, more paper, food wrappings, all litter the grounds in and around the attractions. The midway or main walking area are pretty clean with nice landscaping and potted plants but out of site out of mind mentality they need to get in the nooks and cranny's and really do a better job of cleaning up! Replace the sticky gross garbage cans with ketchup and food stuck all over them. How about replace bathroom fixtures! Large open smelly garbage cans! Lots of "optics" and generally low cost , visible easily fixable area listed here. for the premium price of $39 they should be offering a premium experience.
Just visited this place for the 2nd time July 14, 2016. The first trip was a disaster in 2014. This trip was better because the place has gotten cleaned up since the first visit. It's not a place for grown ups. If you have small children a 2 day trip is perfect. Take some of your own food, the food was expensive. Most of the rides were running. A few were down for repairs, but overall was a good trip for 8 year olds and under. Will do again in 3 weeks for a one night stay. The improvements were noticeable by me from the first trip. Parking was improved greatly, room was clean and had hot water.
My family and I had a really fun time. Everything was up and running and there was no smell from the lake/water at all. However, the water park had an issue which was at the pool area which was very slick as you go out towards the center and my son and I almost fell. They also need more seats in the beach area but it was also a hot crowded Saturday. The staff were nice and not rude at all. I would love to go back. It was nice and we had fun.
I've been going here since I was a small child. Its never been a fancy park, and I expect things like some weeds here and there, I expect the bathrooms to smell, and not be kept up very well. I expect some of the railings and rides to have 17 layers of paint on them, and be able to tell where the paint has chipped off and they just put more paint on. In all honesty, I kind of like it, its how the place has always been. That all being said, the maintenance here has gone down hill and fast. I hadn't been for a couple years, and the last time I went, it was the normal old park. (probably 3 years ago) Its now September 2016, I fully realize that staff may be low right now, so hopefully that is the issue. We got in line for 5 rides that stopped working after we got on them!! 5 separate times, we were not told anything, we just had to leave the line after realizing the ride had been stopped for 10 minutes or longer. This included the Hurricane, the Steel Hawg, the superstition mountain (I call it the cave ride) The ride through shooting game, and one other small one, I can't think of the name of. The Hurricane started working again later in the day, and we went on it. I remember it being pretty rough, but man even my kids said it was bad this year, it just seemed terrible. Lots of shaking even when going straight, etc. The cornball was shutdown for the day because the day prior a maintenance crew member was seriously injured on it. i will note also, that the cleanliness of the rides and the roller coaster cars left a lot to be desired as well. Gave me the feeling that if they aren't even cleaning them, how well is it being maintained at all ... That all being said, we still had fun, I still had the worlds best taco from the taco stand, and my wife and I had lemon shake ups and elephant ears, the kids had dippin dots, we spent a fortune on food, but it was a fun time. We got the day pass that included a season pass for next year, or I would have been incredibly upset about spending that much money and having that many issues. I will wait till the 2017 season, and either update this review or write another one to give a fair judgement. Hopefully the new owners can get some of this stuff up to snuff and running better.
