Old Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey

Pier / Boardwalk · Neighborhood
Once a bustling fish market, Old Fisherman's Wharf combines history, entertainment, and ocean activities. The Custom House, one of the oldest U.S. government buildings in California, stands at the wharf's entrance. Custom House Plaza also houses the local-history Monterey Maritime Museum. The wharf's restaurants offer seafood and other specialties in both casual and formal settings. Take time to browse various shops for souvenirs, handicrafts, and sweets, or visit some of the art galleries. Keep an eye out for the sea lions that often swim around the wharf and take naps on the buoys. • Much more authentic and enjoyable than Cannery Row. I enjoyed watching the boats come in and out. This is where you catch the Whale watching tours.  more »

  • Just a great place to be eat before going food expensive
  • Great variety of shops and restaurants. Much more quiet & easy to get around than Pier 39 (fisherman's wharf in SF). Crab Louie's cafe headed toward the water on the right side, was an AMAZING experience for us! The food was OUTSTANDING & the staff were all fantastic!! The food was really cost effective compared to other places on the wharf. Overall, a wonderful day was had by all. Highly recommend
  • I love visiting the wharf. Even tho I'm local I don't get out much but it's beautiful out there. I wish they had more outdoor seating for those of us not wanting to sit at restaurants with our kids. We enjoyed watching the sailboats and the seals instead.
  • What a great afternoon spend on the wharf shopping and dining outside. There weren't too many vendors outside selling their wares, but we were able to access the souvenir shops and candy store. Everybody appeared to be wearing masks and being polite toward one another. It made for a wonderful day outside after being cooped up for so long.
  • You can't eat indoors but we sat on a wall and listened to an amateur musician. Our food was good and plentiful. The weather was great. If you're afraid of being around others, it isn't the place for you. Personally, I enjoy being around people.
