  • Not well known to outsiders. The scenery is OK. It is a good regional park for the locals. Not worth a long drive to go there.  more »
  • The park is a short drive from Monterey proper. It's on top of a ridge and provides great views both seaward and inland. The hikes are on well-marked trails through piney woods. Worth a visit if you a...  more »
  • First do NOT just punch in "Jacks peak" in your GPS. It will take you to a weird backroad that does not have access to the park. You MUST go to the front entrance as listed on the park website. Once w...  more »

  • This is a great park! The trails are easily navigated and not too long. The views are breathtaking and I highly recommend bringing your camera and telephoto lens. The admission fee is $5 and it is worth every penny.
  • Practically empty Sunday morning. Great trails, views, with lots of elevation changes. Excellent workout.
  • Clean and quiet and easy to get to. The hiking is leisurely, but can be made much longer by walking multiple trails. I found it very pretty.
  • Jack's Peak is a little piece of paradise 5 minutes from Monterey! It is a Monterey County park that has Bar b q pits, and picnic tables at the top! Jack's rises approximately 1000 + feet above sea level, giving the visitor AN absolutely breath taking view of Monterey Bay, AND surrounding area. It had miles and miles of hiking trails, AND JUST the walk up from the street to the top is 2 miles! At about 3/4 like UP there are parking spaces for 14 vehicles, which basically all have a view of the bay! It's free to park in this area, AND $5.00 to enter the park. A yearly PASS CAN be purchased for $80.00. You'll possibly see wildlife on your hike, deer, birds , falcon, Buzzards , or if your lucky, some wild Turkeys! Many people walk the road UP to the top, AND aside from periodic traffic, it's an awesome and challenging grade straight up for 2 miles . A good workout! Although close to the city, it is very WILD and picturesque! Well worth the visit for visitors or locals!
  • Great hiking with beautiful views of Monterey, Carmel Valley, and Point Lobos. The trails are usually quiet and there are nice picnic tables and restrooms by the parking areas.
