Cannery Row, Monterey

(3,200+ reviews on the web)
Historic Walking Area
A waterfront street named after John Steinbeck's novel, Cannery Row is the setting for many of Steinbeck's harrowing stories. The Pacific Biological Laboratories, a well-known location in Steinbeck's novel, is a preserved landmark, along with the Chinese-American store across the street. The biologist that once manned the laboratory gave his name to the area along the coast, now the Edward F. Ricketts State Marine Conservation Area, where sea lions thrive. The waters are open for sport fishing and water sports, such as kayaking. Pay a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to view some of the species that populate the water. • Monterey's version of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Excellent seafood restaurants and wine tastings here. Prices are touristy so be prepared for that, but the cuisine is top notch and always fresh. Plenty of gift shops and stores to drop in and browse as well.
  • Lots of places to shop, eat and site see. Also the Monterey bay aquarium is located at the end of the block. Also keep an eye it for little paths that lead to beaches and other sites.
  • Very good
