Cannery Row, Monterey

(3.1/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web)
A waterfront street named after John Steinbeck's novel, Cannery Row is the setting for many of Steinbeck's harrowing stories. The Pacific Biological Laboratories, a well-known location in Steinbeck's novel, is a preserved landmark, along with the Chinese-American store across the street. The biologist that once manned the laboratory gave his name to the area along the coast, now the Edward F. Ricketts State Marine Conservation Area, where sea lions thrive. The waters are open for sport fishing and water sports, such as kayaking. Pay a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to view some of the species that populate the water. • This was a nice place to browse with a good selection of restaurants available. One end is anchored by the Aquarium.  more »
  • Typical tourist place so if your into that go and have fun. Look into the little out of the sightline places for some real finds.  more »
  • Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors. They have been careful to preserve Dr. Rickett's lab and some of the old "Pisano" homes that Steinbeck refers to in his novel, "Cannery Row."  more »
