Corona Arch, Moab

4.9
#2 of 18 in Parks in Moab
Noteworthy Corona Arch, a natural sandstone formation, is the main attraction of the Corona Arch Trail. Along the 2.4 km (1.5 mi) trail, you'll pass Bowtie Arch and Goldbar Arch before reaching the culmination of the trail at Corona Arch. Here you can admire and photograph the towering red formation, formed by countless years of erosion, and a colorful canyon. Though much of the hike is fairly easy, you will have to ascend a ladder and use a safety cable in one area. Wear sun protection, as there is very little shade along the way, or consider an early morning or early evening hike to the arch. • Breathtaking short in and out hike. Don't forget your camera. I would recommend going early in the morning, when it is least busy and least hot. I came here with my family over Thanksgiving and it was not awfully busy, even though it is extremely popular. Great to do with kids, as lots of people do. You can also bring your dogs but he aware that a lot of the hike is on sandstone and will give your dogs paws a hard time. maybe bring some booties for the pups. Make sure to have water on you, also for your dog.
  • This was an amazing hike. What a beautiful sight at the end. Dog friendly. If your dog likes to dart and run, keep him or her on a leash for there are drop offs. My dog likes to run so I had to keep her on her leash. You may have to help some kids and dogs up a ladder and a hill side.
  • Where else can you find a trail to have all: passing the railroads, climbing a ladder, using the rope, seeing the big arch!! Love this trail! We all think that this is better than the Canyonlands (and some of the Arches) national parks!
  • What an incredible hike and adventure. It's about 3 miles round trip with a small amount of climbing and rock walking. There is not much shade so bring lots of water, hat, and sunscreen. My 12 year old doggy made the trip, so you can too!! Don't sleep on this one - So worth the hike. I highly reccomended going at Sunrise to avoid crowds. Even with it being October and not in the National Park, it was still packed on my way out. I hiked at Sunrise and had the arch to myself. Cheers!
  • Hike was picturesque and quite short. Arch was truly impressive. Deep canyons were beautiful too!

Where to stay in Moab

For affordable accommodations away from tourist crowds, stay outside Moab's busy downtown. Many inns in this area offer free shuttle services to the central part of town, allowing you quick and easy access to Moab's finest shops and restaurants. If you do not plan to spend much time in your room, consider staying at a budget-friendly motel or hostel. For the ultimate in outdoorsy options, campgrounds inside the area's national parks make up what they lack in modern amenities with their panoramic views of the red desert.
