Corona Arch, Moab

4.9
#2 of 17 in Parks in Moab
Geologic Formation Nature / Park
Noteworthy Corona Arch, a natural sandstone formation, is the main attraction of the Corona Arch Trail. Along the 2.4 km (1.5 mi) trail, you'll pass Bowtie Arch and Goldbar Arch before reaching the culmination of the trail at Corona Arch. Here you can admire and photograph the towering red formation, formed by countless years of erosion, and a colorful canyon. Though much of the hike is fairly easy, you will have to ascend a ladder and use a safety cable in one area. Wear sun protection, as there is very little shade along the way, or consider an early morning or early evening hike to the arch. Put Corona Arch on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Moab holiday planner.

  • Challenging hike to a beautiful arch which is not in a park and therefore much less crowded than hiking to delicate arch. At one point you have to go up 10 feet of rock holding on to a cable. Not real...  more »
  • This is a great Arch and an easy hike. Just outside the National Park near the Potash rd. Also Dinosaur tracks close by.  more »
  • This hike was recommended to us by a park ranger at the Arches NP Visitor Center because Devil's Garden was closed. The trailhead isn't far from Moab, along the Colorado River. There was plenty of par...  more »

  • I loved this hike! It had so many fun (not too) technical obstacles over the course of the hike. The arch itself was great and the views were even more spectacular. Plus it isn't in the park so there isn't a line or a fee to get in. I would highly suggest this hike.
  • Amazing! I have visited Arches many times and yet never stopped here, until now. I have to say, it is definitely worth the stop. It is a short hike, and great for the adventure minded family. I would suggest going near sunset, just remember you have to hike back out so bring a flashlight!
  • Good hike that not a lot of people know about. Slightly difficult for younger kids, but my 7 and 10 year olds made it easily enough. If you are adventurous enough you can even hike around behind the arch up to the top.
  • Great moderate hike. Only a mile and a half. I would say 3 intense parts. 1 right at the beginning, 1 about a half mile in, then 1 about a mile in where you half you hold on to a cable to climb up the rocks
  • 1.5 mile hike with some elevation gain. Beautiful hike to two arches, Bowtie & Corona. Not crowded like Arches National Park. Dog friendly. Nice picnic area on the river across the street from trail head.

Where to stay in Moab

For affordable accommodations away from tourist crowds, stay outside Moab's busy downtown. Many inns in this area offer free shuttle services to the central part of town, allowing you quick and easy access to Moab's finest shops and restaurants. If you do not plan to spend much time in your room, consider staying at a budget-friendly motel or hostel. For the ultimate in outdoorsy options, campgrounds inside the area's national parks make up what they lack in modern amenities with their panoramic views of the red desert.
