  • I am, in no way, a fan of downtown Minneapolis. However, for this trip, we came downtown in the evening, on a Saturday, to watch a show at the Dakota Jazz Club. We parked in the Target Center ramp, just a half block from the Dakota. This is key, because I'm disabled and cannot walk more than a hundred or so feet without sitting down. I also cannot negotiate stairs. As it turned out, I only had to sit and rest once each way, and there were no stairs, the bulk of which I am very grateful for. It was a wonderful experience all around. The parking, while not free, was convenient and abundant. We enjoyed our time on the mall that night. Highly recommended!
  • Most things that relate are grouped within the same area but the directory isn't noticeable enough in my opinion to know where to find what you're looking for. Most of what I searched for was plainly seen but I had no idea about the other resturaunts that seemed a bit hidden. That could be a good thing in the fact that searching is fun. Altogether nice experience though.
  • Wish I could give negative. Most stores are not even open. The rest besides target that I looked at the open hours listed online is different than what it is at the store. It's kind of spooky walking through hallways of basically closed building. They should update online about the closures.
  • A nice post-apocalyptic construction zone with terrific displays of dirt, closed shops, and people who appear dazed from some kind of blast. I can't seem to find anyone who believes it will ever end. Inside a bar enjoying the beer with a 13% sales tax, I sit beside a few giddy nutters spreading some gospel about a "super bowl" which will change everything as we know it. I ask them to tell me when this will be, they say "A winter coming soon!" I scratch my head in wonder as the drooling nutter adds, "It's only the greatest time of year to be alive in Minnesota! Why there's snow and ice! Traffic congestion, and car accidents! An exhilarating time for us all! Who wouldn't want to come here and share the bounty of the season!" I finish my beer and leave. Walking down Nicollet mall afterwards has me deep in thought. A man stares down at me menacingly from the skyway above, and I wonder how long it will be before they install pay-per-shot sniper stations up there to sportingly pick us off in these dirt troughs below. I encourage everyone to find their own rosy epiphany that can only come from a stroll down Nicollet Mall.
  • Nicollet Ave is totally torn up and looks like a disaster. Speaking of disasters, the lenghth of time the city has wasted on this project is itself a disaster. The 3 stooges could have completed this project months ago. If a business can survive through this protracted shutdown it will be a miracle. When will they finish this?? My estimate is the year 2030 .... and that might be rushing them!!! no stars for the city of Minneapolis on this boondoggle. It better turn out real great!

Where to stay in Minneapolis

To stay in the thick of tourist action, choose a hotel in downtown Minneapolis. This area offers many independent and chain hotels, with rooms that range from budget-friendly to high-end. You can also stay close to the area by exploring mid-range hotels just a few blocks from downtown that are set in quieter neighborhoods with fewer tourists. If you have access to a car and don't mind driving to most major attractions, you can consider a good value motel or inn just outside the city.
