  • Here, you feel out of this world. It's an amazing place, you must go to the top and enjoy the gorgeous sightseeings. Also, you can go down to the bottom of the cone, it seems hard but it isn't. Climbi...  more »
  • The Cinder Cone was challenging climb because of the cinder but it was well worth it for the views from the top. Lots of fun, don't miss it.  more »
  • The views from the top were great (Mount Lassen, lakes, painted dunes), and it was really cool looking down into the cinder cone. I have to say though, essentially all the elevation gain is at the end...  more »
  • A less known iconic landmark of Lassen National Park. Very far away from the main park - about 45 minutes away. The road to the trail head/campground is very rough. But well worth it. The hike to cinder cone is short. About 4 miles. But the trail is full of volcano ash(?) which is very loose. Hiking boot and trekking pole is highly recommended. But once you get there, absolutely gorgeous. Very unique scene. Very distinctive land around. MUST GO if you travel to Lassen National Park.
  • This is my favorite hike experience in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It's not every day that you can climb to a top of a volcano, and descend down to the bottom of its caldera. Being down in the bottom of the caldera is not a visual treat but it is an experience to be in such an unusual place. The hike up the volcano is difficult with all the loose rocks, but taking small steps and stepping into the existing foot steps makes it a bit easier. Definitely worth all the effort to get to the top.
  • One of the best experiences you can get in Lassen.
  • Some dirt road to get there, but must amazing and unique views of volcanic activity
  • A wonderful, moderate effort hike to Cinder Cone. Exciting to climb it and go down inside. Loose pebbly footing... a good workout.
