The Pabst Mansion, Milwaukee

4.6
#1 of 9 in Historic Sites in Milwaukee
Tour opulent The Pabst Mansion to discover what life looked like from the top during the Gilded Age. Capt. Frederick Pabst, the founder of Pabst Brewing Co., built this 37-room, 14-fireplace palace between 1890 and 92. As you tour the mansion, which is now a museum, you can see large paintings that Capt. Pabst hung on the walls, as well as highly detailed and embellished furnishings that adorn many rooms. Take a general-admission tour to see the mansion's highlights, or consider pre-booking a grand tour for more thorough exploration of the home. • An amazing architecture. It was a good tour and a well informed guide. Only inconvenience was with the restroom, it was on the other side of the building. Restroom was not clean n they have only one common restroom.
  • What a beautiful mansion and amazing tour. I am so happy I got to see this place. Highly recommended it.
  • I think our tour guide may have been new because I could tell she was trying to remember all of her information. This made her a little awkward and her jokes fall flat. The house itself is impressive, especially given its historical context within the city, but I just couldn't get over our tour guide.
  • This place is beautiful and architectural details are stunning.Barb, our docent, made it even better. She was an excellent guide and the history she provided, really brought the mansion to life.
  • Was a great place to visit and Carolyn was a very informative tour guide. Well worth the $12 if you have the time. Amazing wood craft throughout the house and interesting to see the rooms that are restored.

Where to stay in Milwaukee

Staying in the city center puts you right in the heart of the activity, and means you can take advantage of all the things to do in Milwaukee’s walkable downtown area. Options here include big chain hotels as well as quirky inns. Party animals should sacrifice some sleep to stay close to Milwaukee’s lively bar scene, centered around Water Street. Those who want a little more rest should consider a scenic resort in the greater Milwaukee area; many of these are within easy driving distance of the main attractions.
